CNC Laser Engraving Engineered Wood Flooring

CNC laser engraving engineered wood flooring is a very clean and precise process thanks to CNCROi.com‘s Austrian Trotec Speedy 400 flexx. The results look spectacular and this material is very easy to seal for years to come both on the floor and wall!

We first put a mask onto the engineered wood flooring board, this makes clean-up quick after the engraving is done as the resins and glues found within this material cool and settle on the paper instead of wood. Trying to remove vaporized material off wood is difficult, its sticky and you can’t use sand paper either as it gunks-up rather quickly. Masking is the only way to produce clean engravings quickly and efficiently.

This is engraved using our CO2 laser source, we have extraction sucking the vapor out on full-power along with our compressor pushing the vapor out-of-the-way immediately after it’s produced. The two work together to keep things clean, our vacuum table underneath is also sucking out residue.

Looking at the engineered wood flooring board from another angle, you can see our CNC laser head is high above the material we are engraving. This is important because it means we have plenty of clearance for awkward and raised parts on a plank should some exist.

The wood grain comes out clearly once we vaporise the first layer of the engineered wood flooring board. This can then be easily paint filled or you can apply a coating over the entire board once again if you wish… it depends on the application.

Even with the extraction and compressor on max, there is still quite a bit of residue on the making paper we put on it.

Removing the paper reveals a very nice and clean engraving. The different densities in the wood reveal themselves when the laser vaporizes the first layer, the higher the density, the less is vaporized and vice versa, which is why you see this variance. As for application, I’ve seen this engineered wood used for everything from wall coverings (CNCROi.com can engrave several meters long and a meter wide by the way) to seating and even directional signs. Engineered wood is incredibly flexible application wise and with our powerful laser, we can just as easily cut through it as we can engrave highly detailed drawings or logos onto it.

Contact us with your application and we’ll engrave or cut through your engineered hardwood or softwood materials!
