Metal Looking Custom Laminate Animals

CNCROi.com is making a bunch of custom laminate animals, this time, out of mirror metal laminate with a black backing.

I had a piece of scrap metal looking plastic laminate left over from a custom CNC job we recently completed so I thought it would be fun to launch a bunch more custom laminate animals in this material just to showcase the endless material options we offer our customers.

I added a bit of dust to the laminate, just to make the focus of the camera a bit easier, generally this is coated and very shiny which causes havoc for our filming equipment and photography here in the shop to show you how we do about making these custom laminate animals.

On this mirror metal plastic laminate, there is a very thin layer of metal looking and highly reflective plastic over jet black laminate, this means that when ever we engraving into this, we are vaporizing off the metal mirror looking surface to reveal the black underneath.

We use laminate for a host of different projects here in the shop, from signage to coasters, wall quotes to inlays. Like all the other materials CNCROi.com offers our customers, the options are endless but budget and application dictate the best material for any given job. This is just a small sampling of what we could have used to make these custom laminate animals.

Here we are using our Austrian wide-format industrial CNC laser to engrave into the laminate,  you can already see the black that’s revealed after vaporizing the mirror metal laminate on top.

We can make custom laminate animals quite easily into stickers and a whole bunch of other color combinations quite easily here in the shop, so this can be blue on red, green on white or whatever you desire.

Now that everything is CNC laser engraved, it’s time to go ahead and begin CNC cutting it using our CO2 laser source.

There is a faint inner outline on these custom laminate animals to prevent small pieces from falling off, you can see in the tail section of the elephant below, for instance, how easily that would break off if we just cut out the outline.

We can work and produce custom animals as well from photographs, think custom wedding cake toppers in the shape of your favorite animal, just to give you an idea, out of mirrored acrylic.

All of these wonderful custom 2D laminate animals are now coming into being quite nicely, there is a little room left in between them as I also wanted to show you that we are actually producing two products, not one here.

The first product we are making are these custom laminate animals, in this case, there is no industrial double-sided tape but there could have been, or a solid acrylic or plywood backing to give them a bit more thickness and strength.

But the second product we are making only reveals itself AFTER we’ve taken these custom laminate animals away from their mirror metal laminate…

A custom stencil! So for some applications, we can send you both for very distinctive uses, one you can affix to a wall or product and then the other use with spray paint to augment the quantity of product we make for you.

The nice thing is that production of the stencil automatically produces the animal and vice versa, that’s the ultimate byproduct of this custom laminate animal production.

You do have to let us know ahead of time, as we can optimally place the custom 2D shapes for your own use, and even make them into distinctive panels for your needs. For instance, the above stencil isn’t really user friendly but a few modifications and it can be used effectively!
