I’m extremely proud to launch something completely new, matte finished 304 stainless steel welding tags, and of course, it’s great for other industrial applications as well! CNCROi.com is always pushing the custom envelope!
In this video above, I focus on the new matte finish for all our stainless steel offerings but as a backgrounder, watch this video as well more specifically focused on the welding aspect of these highly popular welding tags.
Let’s focus on our custom matte finished 304 stainless steel welding tags, below is one such tag that started-off like the other stainless steel tag, we just transformed the surface PERMANENTLY into a matte finish.
The advantage of having a matte finish for stainless steel is that it’s nowhere near as reflective, the annealing process is identical, but it has a bit more of a very dark brownish color to it when reflected than a shiny stainless steel when it comes to the original welding tag.
Just to emphasize, there is nothing that will come off these matte finished stainless steel offerings by CNCROi.com. This is not painted or processed any differently than a “traditional” stainless steel tag, it’s just converted into a matte finish.
The annealing fiber CNC laser settings are exactly the same regardless of the tag finish, the annealing is permanent and the only way to remove the marking is to use a sand belt onto it. The process of annealing is incredibly slow but the results are incredible and never peel, crack or come off, short of introducing a sanding belt to the surface.
Our Austrian CNC laser is a wide-format industrial machine with both CO2 and fiber laser sources. The reason we have a fiber is exactly this, we can permanently anneal stainless steel which isn’t possible using a CO2 laser source. You need to use non-permanent ceramic bonding paste with a CO2 laser source which is just not what we are into.
If you look closely at the tag above and below, there is a little line of debris, that washes right off, you don’t see it in the final tag. Annealing custom industrial stainless steel tags requires a bit of a cleaning afterwards, just to remove any metal that fails to remelt into the surface during the industrial marking process.
The resolution we can achieve on our industrial custom stainless steel matte welding tags is north of a thousand DPI but generally we use settings less than that to make these more affordable and you won’t notice any different in DPI between a thousand and 500.
We have a large amount of welding tags in different sizes and shapes in stock, in addition to our custom offerings. Our customers have come to rely on us to produce amazing quality industrial PERMANENT tags and now being able to offer all our stainless steel with a matte finish is just another evolution of our custom tag offerings.
The light also hits these tags differently based on the angle but the matte finish gets rid of the reflection that would otherwise be present in the area where there is no annealing. It really makes the annealing pop so much more!
Comparing the above custom matte finish stainless steel welding tag to the one below, you can see how different it looks depending on the angle of the light hitting it. Like annealing our “regular” finished stainless steel custom welding tags, these are permanently annealed regardless of the surface finish.
And yet another angle, you can see how awesome these custom welding tags look. The feel of these matte finish industrial tags is also unique, it isn’t the smooth you have on typical stainless steel, it’s more of a 720 grit sand paper, it really feels nice!
Yet again, taking a look at the same custom matte finish stainless steel welding tag, this is something that’s hard to convey other than doing a series of pictures. These feel, look and are totally awesome and we can customize the shape, size across the board, want one hole or 10 holes at any size? Yep, CNCROi.com can do that!
To give you an idea, here is an anodized aluminium custom machine tag we made earlier. We make custom machine tags for a large number of manufacturers in various sizes, thicknesses and shapes, custom made to their specs.
Let’s compare all three custom welding tag offerings, pure stainless steel, anodized aluminium and matte finished stainless steel.
You can see how the light hits each one differently, from this series of pictures. There is a shadow in the tags to help show the different surface qualities in more detail, that’s me taking a photo.
Regardless of your choice, they all look spectacular, the marking on them is also permanent, so you can weld these to your projects, rivet them or anything else as there is nothing printed on these welding tags.
