17 Years on YouTube!
17 years ago, I opened an account on YouTube… time sure flies fast!
What was the first video I uploaded? Well, it was one of my first designs for WoodMarvels.com, which then became CNCKing.com and eventually, CNCROi.com.
Back then, online streaming was EXPENSIVE, and YouTube.com was free (among a few other sites that have since died) so I began uploading and streaming my digital designs on it. The above video was uploaded Jan 25, 2008.
It would then be about a year before I uploaded a video of myself, filmed when I taught ESL in South Korea on Feb 1, 2009.
I was running WoodMarvels.com selling digital files of my designs for over a year and gained a lot of traction, so my life was basically hiking the local mountains, 3D modeling and selling digital files, while working as an ESL teacher.
When I returned to North America, I decided to begin video taping myself making projects with my ShopBot Desktop CNC router… I knew NOTHING about CNC machines, I didn’t even know they existed… and now I had one around – this video was from Oct 24, 2011.
I uploaded my roadtrip to ShopBot HQ on Nov 12, 2011 and honestly, my life has never been the same since. This was truly a massive fork in the road for me, CNCROi.com wouldn’t exist without my ShopBot Desktop… which I stil have to this day in the shop!
It actually lead to me moving to Australia with my ShopBot Desktop helping Evright with a bunch of activities and dreaming of one day owning a Trotec Speedy 400 flexx, the video above was from Dec 31st, 2013.
I couldn’t have predicted that a few years later that I’d actually own one of the first in North America!
Now CNCROi.com has, what I consider, a very unique and dream shop, there is always something that can be improved upon but it’s been a 17 year journey from digital to physical that’s been a hell of a fun journey so far!
My most recent video is from January 26, 2025… with many more to come! Seems like age has definetely happened to me through the years, but it’s been rather kind in my opinion.
