Acacia Branding: CNC Laser Engraving
CNCROi.com does lots of cutting board and serving tray branding, so today we’ll review Acacia branding which we do using our industrial CNC laser.
Acacia branding isn’t a process I’ve done before here on CNCROi.com, I’d say the closest wood we’ve done that has a similar weight and feel, including CNC laser engraving results, would be Walnut.
Here’s a quick comparison of Walnut to a bunch of other wood species CNCROi.com makes projects out of for our customers, just to show you the diversity of our offerings and woodworking experience.
The easiest way to show you the difference between Walnut and Maple in weight and workability is to compare it to basswood, where basswood has the density and weight of a feather compared to Walnut and Maple which are like rocks.
As the Acacia branding we are doing today is like Walnut, it gives you an idea of how hard this wood is and as its a far lighter color than Walnut, provides even better contrast due to its light color.
CNCROi.com has done lots of wood projects through the years, here’s a video showing you just a small fraction of what we’ve done on log and the live edge front alone!
Working with different species of woods, making these demonstration videos and so forth really helps to showcase what’s possible to our client base and gives options that many thought weren’t even “options” due to our on-demand design through build philosophy.
Just look at this Acacia branding above with the fire and compare it to the Walnut slab we did a while back, and you’ll see very similar fire and darkening of the wood as the laser vaporizes the top layer of this wonderful material.
For this Acacia branding, the goal isn’t to go DEEP though we do generate a good depth on this, which can be modulated up or down, the goal is to BRAND.
Generally when it comes to cutting boards and serving trays which we can make out of anything for anything, the branding is done in one of the corners or even the edge, the reason why I’m doing this Acacia branding across the entire surface it to showcase the clarity of our work using our Austrian CNC laser.
The color is also pretty similar to an earlier cutting board or serving tray I’ve engraved here at CNCROi.com earlier onto bamboo.
Normally when it comes to branding wood, CNCROi.com will mask the surface, but as I’ve never worked with Acacia branding before, I wanted to see how much resin and settling would occur over the surface, don’t worry, this is a hard wood, it sands real easy and nicely.
Our CNCROi.com logo is also a relatively tough logo to do properly across materials, that’s because it has lots of sharp lines and curves, and narrow details so when you look at this Acacia branding you can compare it directly to other woods we’ve done, and that’s the purpose, material comparison.
This Acacia branding is pretty straight forward but CNCROi.com can go as nuts as you want when it comes to custom branding wood, check-out this video showing how we transformed a skid into a world map that’s now behind me in all these videos when I speak about what we are doing.
There are lots of wood capabilities in the shop, having both a woodworking and a metal fabrication allows us to really produce amazing work for just about any application here in the CNCROi.com shop.
This Acacia branding is now finished, you can see how much resin and soot content is hidden in this acacia cutting board or serving tray.
Looking at the entire work at a distance, it’s actually looking very good if you can look beyond the burns and the vaporized stuff all around the Acacia laser engraving.
At another angle, you can see that even the knot in the bottom right that’s slightly engraved still came out pretty good, this is because there isn’t as much of a wood density differential between the knot and the rest of the wood, like you’d see in Pine.
A close-up of our logo, see all that dark brown stuff along the bottom of CNCROi.com branding on the Acacia? Yep, that’s resin, it’s shiny too!
Nothing a quick sanding can’t solve, sanding videos are generally boring so I saved you a few minutes of your life by not documenting it onto this Acacia branding board.
If you are wondering how the sanding was done, it was a piece of furniture I made using our Austrian CNC laser as well!
The results after sanding the Acacia branding look absolutely amazing, the contrast is just wonderful, it’s consistent and the grain really makes it pop!
A close-up of the CNCROi.com Acacia branding reveals just how precise the results look, clear, legible and branded for life!
Here’s another angle of the Acacia branding.
A common question I get from customers is regarding cork, it’s great having an Acacia branded board and serving tray but what about hot pots and pans on a table? Can that be branded too?
The answer is yes, cork comes out very nice, it does need to be cleaned after production though, as the soot just stays in the cracks due to the way cork is made by the tree but the contrast is amazing.
The advantage of CNC laser engraving cork with your custom brand is obvious, it’s PERMANENT even under very hot temperatures as nothing was “added” to produce the branding, the color is from the material itself, in this case, cork, just like the Acacia branding above.
The fine soot does get everywhere but just a damp rag picks-up most of it and after using it a few times, it actually looks better too!
