Why so big?
Actually, I had to start putting content into V6 (this is V5) because I had more information than I had pages in this book. I think a 500 page book is about where the fun stops and splitting it up into two books of 250 pages to me doesn’t make much sense. It’s a good middle ground. Big enough to learn a lot of stuff, small enough to swat a fly on a window without breaking it.
Why write another book?
For me, writing and sharing knowledge is fun… I don’t watch TV so that means I have more hours in the day than most people and to me, everyday is a weekend so when I get tired of doing one kind of work, I just flip the switch and do another kind of work. It’s something I began doing when I was young and it’s why I’m able to efficiently do so many things and still have my solid 8-9 hours of sleep a night.
Marketing!
As I mention in my latest book, writing the book is the easiest part of the whole process, it now comes down to marketing it… I put in a number of ideas on how to do this which are pretty much product agnostic so let the fun begin!
When I have conversations with clients and fans alike, I remind them that wherever they are in their business, I’ve been there and can relate. They are trying to build-up stock to launch a new product? Been there… starting-up a new business with no money and trying to get the word out? Been there. Established business raking in millions? Hope to be there!
Most proud achievement?
I’m so happy I was able to get so many fantastic people involved in this book though interviews with some incredibly busy people. I’m always astonished when the director of a company, regardless of size, takes the time to answer my questions and give me a shop tour… this novelty has never worn off. You may think it’s a shop tour but it isn’t… it’s the company’s resume of successes and failures in full display.
Much like a product is a showcase of the designer’s soul, a shop floor is a showcase of the company’s.
