Custom charcuterie board engraving can be made by CNCROi.com with any mix of images, text and graphics you can imagine… in this case, we are engraving a family recipe on the Black Walnut.

Working across a whole host of different mediums, from steel to plastic, wood is a nice break from the other material because unlike just about everything else, wood smells great when it’s being laser engraved or cut… or routed in the shop.

In this case, the customer already purchased a finished charcuterie board so our job was only to engrave it, but we also have a full woodworking shop so CNCROi.com could have just as easily actually made the charcuterie board as well.

Having multiple tools and platforms gives CNCROi.com a lot of flexibility when it comes to charcuterie board engraving, we could have performed this task with a little more depth and ornamentation using our CNC router or a rougher finish using our industrial sandblaster.

For ultimate legibility on a small area, nothing beats the laser though, it does an amazing job engraving highly detailed fonts on wood that is second to none, and that’s why it was used for this custom charcuterie board engraving.

Black Walnut makes for an amazing serving tray and even cutting board, it’s incredibly strong and dense, which are also great qualities to have when it comes to laser engraving highly precise and sharp details in this material.

The fun part of laser charcuterie board engraving is the shier diversity of what’s possible, we’ve engraved literally everything from animals to hand drawn sketches on this material and this is the first time CNCROi.com‘s had the honor of putting a family recipe into it.

As this board was already finished when CNCROi.com got it from the customer, they will need to give it a light sanding and then refinish it in order to make sure this is properly sealed and to remove the burning marks around the letters.

Our CNC laser is accurate within a fraction of a mm or inch, as a result, we are able to pass over the area multiple times if it was required with upmost accuracy and repeatable precision.

Walnut is a great material to work with, CNCROi.com can use it for big and small applications.

The bright light you see during the charcuterie board engraving is the instant vaporization of the Black Walnut under the intense light produced by our laser.

The great advantage of using CNC equipment to engrave literally anything is the repeatability, meaning CNCROi.com‘s machine will engrave the first like the millionth charcuterie board with the same level of precision, our laser doesn’t get tired or need smoke breaks, it just keeps going and going and going!

The laser engraving of wood is generally the same process regardless of the species involved, the only real difference is we can go faster with less dense wood for similar depth results but have to go slower on denser material or over knots – speed and thus depth is very much related to the density of the underlying material.

The smoke you see coming from the laser during the charcuterie board engraving is no different than smoke coming from a camp fire, it’s just the wood itself being burned away, there are no chemicals involved with this process, as a result, the branding is permanent, it will not fade, crack or peel over time.

Laser engraving is almost a magical process, there is nothing touching the material, it’s just heat that produces the result, sort of like holding a magnifying over wood, the heat generated at the focal point is what produces the result.

As the engraving goes about onto the charcuterie board, you can begin to more clearly see the smoke that develops around the engraving area.

The gases from the charcuterie board engraving can cause an issue in the machine, it’s sticky and combustible, but CNCROi.com has a powerful extraction system so it’s quickly whisked away during the process so the danger is removed.

The charcuterie board engraving is just about finished on this Black Walnut, the contrast is free, it’s just charcoal, no ink or dyes required to produce a darker result where the laser was turned on.
