CNC Laser: Cinder Block VS Paper
What endlessly fascinates me is that the same laser we use to engrave into cement cinder blocks can also cut even the most delicate paper. If we used the same settings on cement as we did on paper though, it would be obliterated and the other way around, nothing would happen… so it’s all in the settings!
Suffice it to say that engraving a cinder block using our CO2 laser source isn’t the quickest of processes, depending on the composition of the cement itself, we can achieve great results or not-so-great ones… so material testing is an absolute must!
The results can be about a mm deep or deeper depending on budget and goal wishing to be achieved, at the end of the day, laser time = $$$ and the deeper the result, the more money needs to be spent.
On the other end of the spectrum is paper, incredibly thin and delicate – and wow can we achieve amazing cutting results and even engraving (far right). Due to our extraction, we are able to cut paper without any burn marks.
The applications for these materials are endless, you can use paper for just about anything from wedding invitations to ornamental patterns and cinder blocks can be engraved with your company logo for architectural purposes. The advantage of cinder block engraving is that the results are permanent, even if out in the elements!
Yes, we’ve done tile and even field stone using our CO2 laser source, interestingly enough, the settings for each are pretty similar!
