CNCROi.com’s 2 Year Anniversary!
We’d be nowhere without our customers! I’ve been in the custom CNC business for many years but CNCROi.com itself started roughly 2 years ago, offering custom services to companies and individuals around the world.
What makes us unique?
When I started CNCROi.com, my vision was to CREATE things for our customers to their spec and if they had none, something that would blow them away. This required incredibly flexible and powerful machinery, many years of experience and a way to show customers ideas of what’s possible… and I severely underestimated how long it would take to do this.
When you tell people you can make “custom”, people think they mean you import key chains from China and stick their name on it, they think pens that are screen printed and I had to work very hard to put a new idea of what custom really is all about.
For CNCROi.com, custom means just that, we start with raw materials and DESIGN AND BUILD SOMETHING!
Two years on and many more to go…
My goal with CNCROi.com as well, was to grow the company without divulging who our customer base is, this it tough because, by extension, it also means we can’t make videos or show pictures of some of the awesome stuff we’ve made in the shop. That’s where the idea to make CNCROi.com branded items, very different from what we’ve made for our customers, on this website.
Imagine the challenge of starting a brand new company in an area you haven’t lived in for almost a decade and then not telling anybody who you are working for or with! Do you know that means? It means that you are solely judged based on what you show them in your sample case and online. It means you have to try to gain the confidence of a customer, many of whom we never actually meet in person, that we can do the project on their behalf without name dropping.
I’m proud of what I’ve made thus far in these two years and I know there will be a lot more of it in the future. There has been a steady growth in customers and projects over this time period and more importantly, many of our customers no longer care about NDAs because they understand our business model means they don’t need us to sign them.
We do small stuff too!
We do projects that literally fill the entire shop floor to ceiling and others that fit nicely in a purse, its a huge range! From engraving any material with any image through to cutting, etching, marking, annealing, there is a large diversity of custom needs out there that we are focused on fulfilling. The smallest item we’ve worked with thus far was the size of a cuff link and the largest, just recently, a 4 meter (158 inches) long sign and yes, both fit totally fine in the machine!
Buying an Austrian industrial CNC laser with both fiber and CO2 laser tubes has helped us do projects that normally, simply, would be impossible otherwise. The precision we can offer across a host of materials is also unparalleled. Mixed-in with reputable raw material suppliers, the results we achieve for our customers are industry leading.
Continued Investment into our Production
One of the reasons why we keep on growing in capabilities and expertise is the investment we put into our brand, from very recently switching over to a paid platform for our video distribution to trying new things that may or may not work-out – if there is something we do more of than projects, it’s material and project testing!
Each time, learning a little more, expanding a bit more and gaining confidence in what we can produce reliably. This is why we have ongoing projects with Fortune 50 companies as well as XYZ getting married down the street. Each project brings something new to the table, a new method of optimizing, a new creative way of thinking, and this gets applied to the next project down the line and so forth.
You tell us what you want… and we’ll make it!
One thing that I have learned over the past two years is that I no longer tell customers what we can do, instead, I ask them what they’d want and we can make it. Our production palate is literally unlimited, and as such, any suggestion I can offer immediately limits the conversation.
If I tell people we can make awesome custom awards, they immediately think we are a trophy shop (we couldn’t be any further), so I have learned to be very picky about the words I tell to customers.
Creativity is everywhere!
What I enjoy most about CNCROi.com is the creativity I get to be part of, entrepreneurs with unique business models, artists with installations, military with their specs and brides with their boundless imagination.
I also get the opportunity to work closely across a wide variety of industries, from aerospace to fashion, oil and gas through to mill work. Each of these industries have their unique challenges but the fact that I get to cross-pollinate across them ideas and concepts, it’s always a fantastic learning opportunity!
