Creative? You need CNCROi.com!
Setting-up a custom CNC shop like I have done for CNCROi.com was easy compared to the years it took me to learn how to design properly (efficiently) for the equipment I now have in the shop.
Have you ever tried to work with a company to make your creative masterpiece come to reality with somebody who had no idea how to answer your questions in plain English that you could understand? I sure have… the CNC world is wonderful but also very technical. You might think laser cutting or routing a letter out of plywood is straight-forward… and it is… but the material options, depths, pockets etc. quickly bury many creatives.
Projects BIG and small… we do them all.
Many of our customers who are designers themselves normally have small production runs, they want something made to spec but don’t want the hassle of having to give a deposit, retainer and so forth to a shop to produce what they want when they want it, how they want it. That’s why CNCROi.com doesn’t charge any of this, we work strickly on a per project basis. This means you know EXACTLY what something will cost and we know EXACTLY what we get… using this approach is somethings dicey for US when it’s something that ends-up taking a lot longer than expected but for you, you get what you wanted at the agreed price.
Designer helping designers
As for my background, I spent years helping people with machines I couldn’t afford come-up with cool designs for their customers. I still do a lot of this “on the side” over at my site CNCKing.com. What’s great from having this as my background and 5 “how to design for CNC machines” published books on the subject means any questions you may have, I’ve already gone through it.
I distinctively remember trying to get stuff made by other custom CNC shops before I set-up my own and generally, I’d get a quick answer along the lines of “I haven’t look at your design but it’s X$ per hours + a set-up fee of Y$ + materials and consumables”. What did that mean to me? NOTHING. It meant that I just didn’t bother as basically, once you send the design, you really had no clue what the cost was going to be.
Shop Equipment
The above photo was taken just a few months ago but it’s already dated… we are now in a brand new shop about 3x the size of our previous one, that little 15 gal air compressor has been upgraded to a 80 gal industrial one, we have an industrial sandblaster, CNC router and the list goes on. Basically, if you need something made, we can turn your idea into reality.
When I set-up CNCROi.com, my goal was to buy the biggest and best equipment I could find – that’s why we were the FIRST company in all of Canada with a Trotec Speedy 400 flexx laser with both a CO2 and fiber tube… it’s the best top of the like laser engraver you can find which also does a fantastic job cutting. Chinese machines? Nope, all our stuff is North American or European made!
Why no Chinese stuff in the shop?
I won’t lie, the prices coming out of China for CNC equipment are incredible, I could easily have 3-4x the industrial equipment in here at the same price I paid for what I do have. The problem? It’s unreliable, it’s not accurate and if it breaks, YOU ARE SCREWED. If CNCROi.com was a hobby shop, who cares if things break, just get another one a bit later… but when you are doing things for CUSTOMERS with strict deadlines, you can’t afford to have things break and miss those important deadlines.
I really enjoy being able to tell our customers about our equipment, they know we paid top dollar for what we have and that investment will pay dividends on projects we do for them.
NDA – we keep your secrets!
Have an awesome project that you don’t want to world to hear about before you release it? Well, most of our projects are NDA and those that aren’t, are treated as such anyways. Basically, we keep your secrets secret until you let the world know.
The vast majority of our work is B2B, in which we are a cog in a supply chain. Companies from manufacturing to mill work rely on us to help them with coming-up with solutions for their customers. This is why we don’t offer tours of our facilities unless by appointment and even then, we have no exterior signage of any kind telling anybody where we are. You can’t even find an address on our website and business material. Why? Basically, we prefer to focus on working rather than being tour guides.
