As acrylic is basically solid fuel, it’s important when engraving and especially cutting it, that CNCROi.com has a powerful jet of air shooting down on the work to extinguish any flames and at the same time, a powerful extraction system to suck out any combustible fumes that may otherwise build-up in the machine and also cause a fire safety hazard.

If you want something more like imagery or with multiple layered curves, CNCROi.com can also produce embossers like that too, this is MDF but the same applies to acrylic.

In this case, you can see the embosser was done two ways, one mirrored and the other not, the client wanted actually the non-mirrored one but as I don’t generally make this style for embossers, I did one anyways just in case there was a miscommunication (which there ended-up not being).

The customer is actually using the normal non-mirrored embosser to produce an internal embosser that they’d then use for their production, not a process I’m familiar with but it’s always interesting to see new and novel applications our customers come-up with when it comes to making things for them at CNCROi.com.

When it comes to custom clay embosser designs, literally anything goes, especially when it comes to the laser version over the routered one, we can produce higher detail and finer resolution embossers using our laser, but if you need something carved-out at different levels, then routing options are best.

If you prefer something that’s a bit softer, CNCROi.com also makes custom rubber stamps that actually work pretty well for sharply detailed clay and pottery work signing.

Keep in mind that embossers that are produced using the laser are approximate depth, there is no two-way feedback system between the material and the head of the laser like there is with a router, if you need absolute precision depth wise, then routing is the best way forward though for pottery, this is rarely a consideration.

After the engraving process is finished at CNCROi.com, the laser then cuts out the custom acrylic embosser from the solid sheet of acrylic, in this case, it’s a quarter inch thick.

The reason you don’t see a fire shooting-up above the material is because air is shooting down from the head of the laser, but under the acrylic, there is a strong and powerful flame.

Now that this custom clay embosser made out of quarter inch acrylic is finished and cut through, it’s time to review it.

Of course, you aren’t stuck to using only square’ish embossers, round, triangular or whatever, it all works fine for our equipment.

All the dust on the surface of the acrylic is just that, acrylic dust, as a result, it’s just sitting on there and easily removed as this isn’t meant to be part of the finished custom clay embosser.

After a quick clean-up, you can see how great this looks, the function is more important than the aesthetic of this custom clay embosser but it’s still nice to have something good looking to work from and having a smooth surface makes the clay being easier to clean-off.

It’s very hard to show the consistency of the engraving so you can see this embosser at various angles to better see how it all goes together.

As mentioned, I made two of these embossers, so here you can see the same exact design but mirrored, they are identical in every way.
