Custom Designed & CNC Laser Cut Acrylic Keychains
Custom keychains are a piece of cake when you have the right materials, expertise and equipment to pull them off, here’s an idea of what CNCROi.com can do for you!
As mentioned in the video, the material options alone with custom keychains are endless and can be scaled up to any application, meaning these could have just as easily been custom coasters, inlayed signage or anything else you may have a need for.
In this case, we finished-up a big project for a client (this is only one of several batches) which the client said they didn’t want to do anything with the resultant scrap. The reason why these keychains weren’t done at the same time as the main project was because of NDA (non-disclosure agreements) so if I wanted to show videos and photos, it had to be not showing THEIR stuff but only mine.
Once all the acrylic is layed flat, in this case the custom keychains were made of 1/8th inch or 3 mm acrylic, it was time to laser engrave then cut them out from these scrap squares.
I put in a ruler during production so you can get a better idea of scale, these are your typical coaster inlayed inserts, the nice thing about acrylic is that we can get it in any thickness, opacity and color you need and cutting them out is fast and efficient. The scrap is recyclable.
In this case, I needed something acrylic based to give to potential clients so everything worked-out for the best for the client and us. They got a discount on their production and we got to use their scrap for something else. A win/win/win (environment has less to recycle).
These were laser engraved in reverse order on purpose, so the “laser by” is in one direction and the CNCROi.com with smaller text describing what we do being mirrored. With acrylic, we get North of 600 dpi so even fine text is clearly legible and the finish is beautiful as the edges are flame polished during the CNC laser cutting process.
Our machine is an Austrian CNC laser with both CO2 (used in this case) and fiber laser source, and it’s industrial in capabilities and functionality. This is not a hobby machine but a very strong CNC laser that’s capable of 24/7/365 production cycles.
As for customization, our machine can be run through a database, so if you wanted each one of these units to have an individualized name or any other information like a QR code, that wouldn’t be a problem at all. Even if you wanted each one of they custom keychains to have a different profile, we can do that too! That’s mass customization at its finest!
The acrylic has masking on the back, the front masking off to better show-up in the photographs and videos. This assures that you don’t end-up with finger prints all over your work, especially with clear acrylic where they are most noticeable. That being said, they come right off so it isn’t much of an issue.
Keep in mind that these custom keychains were made from scrap, as such, you can see there is some wastage in the material not cut out. Generally, we make entire sheets of these so they would be nested to the maximum possible to produce as little waste as possible during production.
You can already see the clarity of these custom keychains right after production, they are all identical in this case and totally functional pieces in their key holding capability!
Acrylic can also be easily backlit or edgelit, we engrave these and a LED light is shined through the edge to showcase the text or graphic engraved.
After several production runs, we converted all the square pieces into custom keychains for promotional use, sure beats having it head to the landfill or recycling center!
We’ve done custom keychains out of a host of materials, Corian through wood, stainless steel to anodized aluminium and of course, acrylic such as these. They all have different price points depending on application, size, engraving details and volume.
All that’s left is removing the masking on the back to showcase the clear acrylic custom keychain we made with our Austrian CNC laser!
As these were used in a previous production where the front masking was removed, there is a little bit of dirt on them, these are fresh off the assembly line, this is easily cleaned-off in our ultrasonic cleaner.
At the end of the day, we made several hundred of these, it just goes to show how flexible our capabilities are to your specific needs, in this case, these were keychains but they could have just as easily been coasters through to furniture!
The masking is left on for these for now, it will be removed once they go in our promotional pack, everything that is in our promotional packs come from scrap, if we can impress you with our scrap, you should be even more impressed with the REAL finished products we make for customers far and wide!
