Custom Double Sided Sign: Pine
Making a custom double sided sign is really no different than a single sided sign at CNCROi.com, it’s just production time doubles.

For this specific custom double sided sign, CNCROi.com is using Pine for two reasons, first, it’s going to be painted and put outside and second, it’s an incredibly cost effective material that’s very easy on equipment.
Our awesome CNC router does a very precise and quick job cutting out the oval blank that we are using for this custom double sided sign, it will then be laser engraved on both sides with the customer’s branding.
It’s an incredible option for CNCROi.com to make our own custom blanks, it means our customers can basically choose any shape they want in any material, plastic to wood and even metal, for us to then brand or do whatever they want right at the shop.
This is why most of our jobs are started and finished within 24 hours – it’s just such a wonderful power to offer unlimited customization capabilities to our customers, a capability I’m so proud of and continually improving upon for our customer’s benefits.

For this custom double sided sign, the customer wanted the perfect sized oval to be clearly visible from the street and provide plenty of surface area to stand out while people are driving around the neighborhood.
I just love using my CNC equipment and I enjoy being able to use the synergy of all the different machines we have at our shop to make items such as this custom double sided sign.
The custom Pine oval looks fabulous, it’s great when a concept goes from virtual to reality right before my eyes, it happens multiple times a day at CNCROi.com for me and this process never gets old!
Of course, I also make signage just for fun for newborns as well.

As this is going to be laser engraved on both sides, the first side is EASY to figure-out and align, the same power and material removal settings don’t change, we just literally make this custom double sided sign twice after running it through the CNC router once.
Laser engraving, like CNC routing are subtractive processes, meaning unlike a 3D printer, material is constantly being removed, whether in the form of chips or smoke but when making a custom double sided sign, I have to make sure that their removal of material meet in the middle as the sign would be severely weakened.
This custom double sided sign is coming along very well, as with most of our wooden jobs, several passes are required for depth, the customer will be doing the finishing and paint filling so in this case, we don’t really care what color the laser is making the Pine after that process.
I’m not only a owner of CNCROi.com but also a customer, I use my own products for my own uses as well as those made for customers!

When it comes to CNC laser engraving, we choose this process for the logo and wording even through it’s a far slower process than doing it with our CNC router simply because it gives us way more resolution and sharpness than we can achieve with a round bit.
Each pass of CNCROi.com‘s CNC laser goes a little deeper, until we achieve roughly a quarter inch of depth which is plenty for paint filling but we can go a lot deeper as well.
First side is done, time to flip the custom double sided sign over and do the other side, IN THE SAME ORIENTATION, the last thing we want is to redo this entire sign because one side of the branding is upside down!
CNCROi.com can also make little signs for use around the house.

Again, same settings and process to get this custom double sided sign branded on both sides.
As the customer is doing the finishing and paint filling on their own sign, no masking was applied, as the paint filling will be done after sanding and then the dry paint sanded and paint will be applied on the surface using a roller so smoke stains make no difference in this specific case.
That’s where having plenty of depth is important, sanding removes material, again, a subtractive method, but we want to make sure there is still plenty of depth for the paint fill.
Metal signage looks great in any light, your options can be just as much design flexibility as Pine, and it can be done on both sides too!

CNCROi.com can produce a custom double sided sign in literally any material, using any combination of fonts and graphics you can possibly come-up with.
As this side slowly comes into being, we can reflect on how clear and precise our laser has been, the same design, passed over a few times, produces wonderful area for paint filling where our CNC router simply wouldn’t be able to produce the tight corners and thin lines required for this specific custom double sided sign design.
This custom double sided sign came out fantastic!
