Custom Laminate / Lamacoid Name Badge
Custom name badge capabilities, CNCROi.com has done lots of content showcasing our them across woods and metals, time to dive into laminates as acrylics was covered a little while back!
There are a lot of advantages to laminates over their acrylic material kin with the biggest being endless color options. When it comes to acrylic name badges, we generally have the base acrylic which is then engraved into producing a contrast in the same shade as the base material while with laminates, the options are truly endless!
There are also laminates that resemble metals, such as this blog showcasing what can be done with a brushed stainless steel plastic laminate name badge. Above is what a sheet of plastic laminate looks like and below, a stainless steel REAL metal name badge tag.
Close-up you notice a slight difference but from a distance, you’d be hard pressed, in its raw form, of telling the two apart. It goes without saying that the stainless steel name badge tag weighs more than the plastic laminated one.
The major advantage to a custom laminate name badge over a custom stainless steel name badge is cost, while the metal (we do anodized aluminium as well) name badges need to be either laser cut or stamped in volume, the laminates can be cut pretty much on-demand into any shape and size in very low volumes and still be incredibly affordable by comparison.
The other advantage of, in this case, a stainless steel looking plastic laminate name badge, is that the contrast is achieved by engraving into the laminate which is a significantly faster process than annealing REAL stainless steel. We can also get different substrate colors as well, so if you wanted the laminate stainless steel to have a red or blue engraving, we can do that while with REAL metal, it’s not really possible.
A major disadvantage of custom laminate name badges though is durability, while the metal options should be put in your will for future generations, the laminate one will fit comfortably within your mortal coils. This is an important distinction because if your company has lots of staff turn-over, laminated name badges is probably a more cost effective method of making custom name badges than real steel ones.
As for costs, it all comes down to the volume, once you get into the hundreds, the cost of having us produce a custom anodized aluminium name badge are pretty much equal to that of laminates as the processes are similar production wise. It’s the annealing aspect of stainless steel that takes a long time to produce. Regardless of the choice you take, all of these are permanent.
In this case, the custom name badge out of stainless steel laminate comes out fantastic, it has a high contrast and a lot more affordable than going for the real stainless steel name badge option we also offer.

If you wanted to do the same using stainless steel annealing, it would be incredibly expensive by contrast especially if you wanted only a few made.
