Custom Medicinal Coasters
Custom medicinal coasters an be made at CNCROi.com using any wood species within any design spec you can come up with, in addition to any materials you may want, stainless steel to plastic.
For this specific project, CNCROi.com was simply branding small pieces of poplar with a leaf so it was a very straight forward process of feeding the material in, laser engraving it and then taking it out.
You’ll notice that I did have one of the custom medicinal coasters branded already, that’s because it was my test piece to narrow down my settings to this specific poplar run, once I achieved what I wanted, then it was time to just do the same process on all the other blanks.
Wooden coins are popular with our customers, each one is unique due to the grain of the wood and as they are relatively rare, limited only to the production run at hand, hold a lot of value to the person receiving them.
Although this isn’t a very efficient branding method on these custom medicinal coasters, it was less work, you see, the more the head of the laser travels doing “nothing”, the more time I waste.
Alternatively, doing one at a time would mean the laser engraving only happens where the medicinal leaf needs to be engraved into the poplar, so it’s a lot faster but not as interesting to do a video about.
For large production runs at CNCROi.com, further path and engraving optimizations can be made but as this was a relatively small production run, it was easier to just do it as you see them and call it a night.

The color of the engraving is always a darker version of the wood, that’s because we are using heat to generate charcoal.
Because the engraving is charcoal when it comes to wood, the branding on the custom medicinal coasters will never peel, crack or fade over time and of course, as it’s wood, you can also sand it after a few years and restain or finish it for a fresh new look.
The bright white light you see is the instant vaporization of the poplar wood under the intense heat of the laser, that’s when the branding is done, when the charcoal is produced and when the wonderful smell that permeates through the shop is created.
This small custom production run of custom medicinal coasters is now complete, you can see a very slight amount of smoke along the edges of the leaf but some customers like this, others don’t… if you don’t, this can be easily sanded by CNCROi.com and further finished or shipped as/is for your own finishing.
