Custom Metal Lamacoid Name Tag
I have a number of targeted name tags depending on the client and networking event I’m attending, for instance, if CNCROi.com is going to a woodworking show, I’ll wear my wooden name badge but if its an industrial manufacturing one, I’ll wear my brand new metal lamacoid name tag!
Like my CNCROi.com custom oak name badge, this metal lamacoid name tag will be made using stuff from the scrap bin.
1/8th inch (3 mm) thick MDF backing with a stuck on metal looking lamacoid which will be all laser engraved and cut in one shot so that they are seamlessly bound together using stick and fire.
If you are wondering how the wooden name badge was created in these photos, check out this video.
The custom metal lamacoid name tag is the exact same design by the way, just done using a different method on another material.
Just to speed things up, I used my previously made oak name badge as a sizing reference so I didn’t have to stick too much stuff together to make this project come to life.
Lamacoids are easily scratched, as you can see from the image below, this one is scratched extensively (hence scrap bin stuff) but it doesn’t matter, CNCROi.com will transform this scratch and dent into AWESOME!
The reason for the MDF backing is two-fold.
The first, to give added strength as lamacoids are plastic and aren’t the most rigid things in the world and the extra strength will protect it should it fall on the ground.
Secondly, it prevents the lamacoid from moving or warping during production at CNCROi.com as heat + plastic aren’t the best combination.
The double-sided adhesive is applied, it’s a glueless process, this makes sure that there is maximum adhesion between the MDF and the metal lamacoid.
All that’s needed to do is put the lamacoid onto this now sticking MDF and we are ready to go!
If you are wondering about color options with lamacoids, it’s endless.
So, CNCROi.com can closely mirror what you want when it comes to corporate logos for custom lamacoid name tags and also do paint filling if necessary using acrylics.
CNCROi.com doesn’t have to go all fancy either, here’s the same lamacoid we used for today’s metal lamacoid name tag but using a more traditional design.
CNCROi.com uses lamacoids for a whole host of different applications, from high visibility signage to name tags and badges.
Now that the MDF / metal lamacoid name tag are ready for production, it’s up to our Austrian wide-format industrial laser to vaporize off the metal looking surface, revealing the dark non-reflective black to create our CNCROi.com custom metal lamacoid name tag!
Just to give you a reference, here’s the same design, done in oak, so you get an idea of where the new custom metal lamacoid will be coming from.
The scrap has plenty of give so shouldn’t be any issue cutting this out.
The engraving process of the custom lamacoid name tag is the same, regardless of the material involved.
The depth is just enough to vaporize the stainless steel metal looking finish, there isn’t much depth, nowhere near what I did for the oak name badge, because it isn’t necessary to produce the contrast required.
To give you an idea, if you wanted a gold looking name tag, here’s a plaque I did a while ago using a gold surface plastic lamacoid with a black backing.
As our brand new CNCROi.com custom lamacoid name tag is engraved and cut, you can get an idea of the absolute precision and repeatability we offer our customers big and small.
Like our name tag says, we can handle a project design through build or anywhere in-between to suit your needs, like the logo shows, we are just a cog in your wheel.
Now that the custom metal lamacoid name tag is finished, there is a little residue on the surface which is easily cleaned away using soapy water.
With lamacoids, you do not want to wash them with harsh detergents like javex, bleach or even windex.
This custom metal lamacoid name tag is ready now to start networking!
Remember all those scratches? Well, they are still there, but the contrast between the reflective metal lamacoid surface and the black is so strong, they wipe out, visually, any flaws in the material.
Here is the edge of this custom metal lamacoid name tag, the MDF is on the left, the lamacoid on the right, you can see right away that the added strength adds a lot more depth to the design and width which is perfect.
I wore this name tag at a networking event yesterday, not one person noticed the scratches and everybody was “WOW” which is what I wanted to accomplish.
Depending on the light, the reflection is different on this custom metal lamacoid name tag, the surface is far more reflective than the black so it makes it stand out all the more.
Here’s the same CNCROi.com custom metal lamacoid name tag from another angle, it has a slight polished mirror effect head-on.
For comparison, here’s the wooden oak custom name badge on the left, and the metal lamacoid name tag on the right using the same design.
Both of these look awesome and are incredibly unique in their own way!
