It’s amazing looking back at how many custom pine wood projects CNCROi.com has done in the past, so let’s review over a dozen of them.

Custom Pine Wood Projects: Pine with Branded Polycarbonate Inlay Wedding Coasters

This was a fun project CNCROi.com did for a wedding where the customer wanted something totally unique to give to the guests.

Using our CNC router, we made the Pine blanks with an inlay pocket that we then used our industrial wide-format Austrian laser to permanently color change the surface of using our fiber laser source then used our CO2 to cut it out.

What’s great about using this approach over ink or UV printing is that the results will not fade, crack or peel over time as it’s the polycarbonate itself that was changed at the molecular level.

I enjoy it when I get the opportunity from our customer to mix and match different production techniques and equipment to produce something totally unique for our customers.

Custom Pine Wood Projects: Pine Wood Key Holders

CNCROi.com has made quite a few custom wood key holders, generally Pine is our go-to material followed by whitewood due to the ease of work, affordability and fantastic contrast.

What I especially like about Pine when it comes to making a huge variety of projects in the shop is how light weight it is, over say items we make out of Walnut, Oak or Maple.

This saves a lot in shipping even the most unique and larger custom Pine key holders, the grain is also amazing once our laser has engraved into it.

You can literally follow the un-engraved to engraved grain pattern through the whole project and with the knots, each piece is totally unique even if CNCROi.com is making multiple copies of the same item.

Although the above example is out of Whitewood, you’d get a similar result using Pine as both are softwoods but sometimes our customers have specific requests that we are more than happy to produce for them.

Custom Pine Wood Projects: Pine Cutting Boards

Pine is actually a wonderful material for cutting boards, it’s easily sanded by the customer after a few months of use, it won’t dull your knife blades (unlike Corian or very hard woods) and CNCROi.com can cut and engrave it into just about any shape you want.

For my own use when it comes to cutting boards, I personally prefer Pine over just about anything else including Walnut, Maple, Cedar and a bunch of other woods.

Why?

Because it’s very light weight, lasts just as long as any other wood species, extremely affordable raw and to machine and about once a year, I just sand the surface and essentially get a brand new cutting board.

I don’t bother seasoning it or sealing it, just raw Pine works great… not as exotic as the hardwoods but just as good in my opinion.

Custom Pine Wood Projects: Pine Pyrography

Some people think that pyrography can only be made by hand, my talent isn’t up to that level so I use our industrial Austrian laser as a replacement with amazing results.

What would take days if not weeks to do by hand, one burn at a time, can be done and shipped generally within 24 hours from CNCROi.com.

The more contrast present in the photograph, the better the results when it comes to CNC pyrography and what’s especially nice is that the wood grain and knots help to add a lot of extra “free” details to the finished photograph laser engraved into wood.

We can of course do the same using our CNC router, so there are many options when it comes to CNC pyrography but unlike our router, the laser is a one-step process as no paint is needed in order to produce the contrast.

Custom Pine Wood Projects: Pine Award Plaques

Due to NDAs and by their very nature, extensive branding that may occur on a custom Pine award plaque produced by CNCROi.com, I haven’t been able to photograph and film many of the projects we do on behalf of our customers.

Like just about everything else we fabricate for our customers, the specs generally hold true regardless of size, material or branding requirements but for ultra-sharp logos, a black and white vector EPS is required.

The problem with bitmap (jpg, gif etc.) is that they don’t have sharp lines, it’s sort of like looking at a solid black line on a white background with a little grayscale on the edges and as a result, that’s what you end-up having on the custom Pine award plaque.

Luckily, most of our customers can find the right format and we can produce amazing work on their behalf.

Custom Pine Wood Projects: Pine Signage

CNCROi.com has produced big Pine signs and little Pine signs in every imaginable configuration wither it’s for personal or corporate use.

Sometimes that signage is paint filled and other times, just left in a shape for a customer to carve into themselves (using our laser registration lines and marks as reference).

Something that’s especially popular with our customers are custom bible verses and inspirational quotes custom CNC laser engraved onto Pine.

These signs can be as extensive or simple as you wish, using any font combination you want and because Pine is so light weight, it’s very easy to put them up on the wall without requiring a forklift.

Sometimes our customers know exactly what they want, and other times, they leave it up to us as to what we fabricate for them using Pine.

I truly believe that no doorway is complete without a custom Pine sign by CNCROi.com!

Of course, we can make multiple copies out of the same material or different, it makes no difference, each has their own unique esthetic and beauty.

What’s important is that you get a wonderful Pine sign to cherish for centuries to come that can be passed onto future generations.

Custom Pine Wood Projects: Pine Boxes

Yep, CNCROi.com also makes custom Pine boxes in any configuration you can imagine, I haven’t showcased many of these on our site as most of the time, they are so specific and unique with associated NDAs, I just don’t want to bother with photographs and video.

With our growing metal department, we’ve also gotten into projects where we can make custom hinges and handles for our customers who want us to make custom Pine boxes for them and unlike Oak or Walnut boxes (we can make those too), Pine is relatively light weight!

Custom Pine Wood Projects: Pine Products

There are a lot of unique possibilities when it comes to producing custom Pine products for our customers, probably my favorite would be beer openers, it’s just such a wonderful use of wood and metal with custom engraving and cutting to whatever the customer wants.

It’s a perfect mix of all worlds in my opinion and our customers rave about their custom Pine beer bottle openers!

Other Pine products that I can show, thanks to our customer’s permission, include such things as self-defense tools, rulers, widgets and so forth.

If this CNCROi.com blog post shows you anything, it’s the incredible diversity of items that we can make for our customers using wood, more specifically, Pine.

Although Pine has nothing on Aromatic Cedar, the cost effectiveness wins the majority of the time as we make custom Pine projects within our customer’s budget means.

Custom Pine Wood Projects: Reclaimed Pine

As part of the joy of making items with Pine in the shop, we also get to make custom projects for our customers using reclaimed Pine, from pallet wood.

We’ve made thousands of custom Pine coasters and key chains out of reclaimed Pine, it’s a harder material to work with as nails and other material defects are higher but the results are unique in their own way.

Sometimes though, CNCROi.com gets a wack of wood in one shot and we keep it in storage for our customers upon which we make lots of their items, from custom bookmarks to vanity items.

Although there is some deviation, I’m trying very hard to keep this blog post as Pine related as possible but we also do a lot of work with Oak that could have just as easily been made using Pine.

Of course, custom Pine signage can be made using Pine just as easily by us here in the shop, you just have to remember that the slats do have some differences in height and width between them.

Although reclaimed and pallet wood is technically “free”, it does require quite a bit of work to break them down and ready for production.

Custom Pine Wood Projects: Pine House Number Signs

You may not have thought about it before but Pine is wonderful for house number signs, big or small, they are light weight, very easy to affix to just about anything and can be easily painted to match any type of decor.

The numbers can also be mixed with text using any font or imagery you wish.
