Custom Solid Oak Name Badge: Networking Must-Have!
A custom solid oak name badge isn’t something you see too often at networking events, hopefully CNCROi.com can make some for your company to change that!
CNCROi.com is by no means a strange to custom name badges and name tags, I just had a new opportunity arise with our new corporate logo (new because for 3 years, we didn’t have one) and have a networking event tomorrow to attend and put two and two together to produce this one-of-a-kind masterpiece!
I’ve never understood why people wear small little name badges and tags at networking even where you need to squint and read closely what is even said on them, WEAR A NAME BADGE THAT’S BIG AND PROUD!
Looking at my previous one, something becomes quite obvious, my custom name badges aren’t getting smaller but BIGGER over time!
The one on the right is my old one made out of solid REAL mahogany, it has served me well bringing in custom business for CNCROi.com but it’s time to change things up a bit!
If you are curious to see how that one was made, watch the video below.
As you can see through these videos, lighting plays a large role in the visuals of REAL WOOD NAME BADGES.
In some light, even within this blog post, you see it from a warm brow and yellow to a pale comparison, it’s all the same badge and this is something unique that I’ve only seen from the custom name badges CNCROi.com produces here in the shop.
If you are curious where you saw the above piece of wood before, it’s a piece of scrap that I’m slowly working my way through here at CNCROi.com that I used previously for my custom oak bookmark demonstration.
You can still see the shape of this bookmark in the photo above this video from which this custom solid oak name badge came from!
It was resawed using our Rikon 10-326 bandsaw which I absolutely love and have used with many projects since getting it both in our old shop and our newer, far bigger one!
CNCROi.com name badges are like our shops, they only get bigger over time!
I realize that some people might be intimidated at first at wearing such a large name badge at networking events, but I have yet to have ANYBODY say anything remotely negative about it.
In fact, showing my company name big and proud has also gotten some of my clients to start doing the same.
You are going to networking events to be NOTICED.
A custom solid oak name badge will GET YOU NOTICED & REMEMBERED.
Of course, if you want something more “traditional”, CNCROi.com can make those too, just tell us what you want, how many and sizing and we’ll make it just for you!
There are literally infinite options when it comes to your own personal custom name badge made out of any material, design and sizing to suit your requirements.
CNCROi.com can pretty much handle any type of volume you require as well!
If you want a solid metal custom name badge, or one made out of Corian, anodized aluminium, Bloodwood (wood species) or even your own products, CNCROi.com can help you out!
For this custom solid oak name badge, I decided to have the grain vertical instead of horizontal, just one of the many design decisions I had to make starting from a raw plank of Oak!
I really love making wood products out of real wood just like using real leather for leather projects, there is something that just looks and feels great wearing these vs their man-made versions.
The grain on this custom solid oak name badge really adds a lot of detail to make this stand out all the more, it’s really REALLY hard to screw-up something made out of something that took nature millions of years to perfect.
Marry that with an awesome design, and it’s just pure heaven when it all comes together!
After the first CNC laser pass to engrave the custom solid oak name badge information, I decided to put the system out of focus (on purpose) and do another quick pass, this darkens the engraving (see pic below) and provides even better contrast.
This is something that doesn’t work unless you are using REAL wood!
Once this custom solid oak name badge was finished being blackened, it was time to cut it out of the oak plank I resawed originally using our amazing bandsaw.
Power tools, hand tools and elbow grease are involved with all our custom work, it’s what gives it the “wow factor” and why you don’t see this type of work too often.
I started CNCROi.com out of a passion for design and working with materials of all types and sizes, I really enjoy getting the most out of the material I have on hand for our customers, if that means a bit more time to hone things, so be it.
The white mask you see over the surface helps to lessen the amount of staining that happens on the surface of the custom solid oak name badge as it comes right off.
It has the consistency of scotch tape, taking it off reveals a mostly clean surface, saving lots of sanding time!
Here you can see the custom solid oak name badge taken out from the board I made earlier, there is still room for more CNCROi.com demonstrational projects on that!
Taking a close look, you can see how much soot and smoke settles on the surface, and we have a powerful extraction system and high pressure nozzle on this during the entire production process!
Taking it off reveals a pretty clean surface that needs a little sanding.
The goal with sanding this custom solid oak name badge isn’t to remove ALL the stains on it, it’s those little stains that add character and uniqueness, it’s just to remove them from being a distraction.
You can see it really cleaned-up nicely, I could go further and really clean it up to make this custom solid oak name badge really pop but as I’m the designer through finisher, I need SOMETHING to show people curious about the production of this custom name tag some break crumbs.
Close-up, you can see how wonderful it looks, you can see a little staining around the “N” and below the “E” but I’m totally fine with that.
Also, note that the surface isn’t totally flush flat, there are pits and grooves, this is REAL WOOD, this is what real material has.
After a few layers of lacquer, you can see how this custom solid oak name badge transforms into something that belongs on my chest for every networking event I attend in the near future!
As luck has it, I’ll probably end-up giving it to somebody else to play around with, but until then, it’s got a reservation on me!
