Custom Stainless Steel Tags
Custom stainless steel tags can be made out of any design profile you want, anodized aluminum through titanium, business card sized to 6ft across, so if you need something custom to brand your work permanently, CNCROi.com can make it for you and ship it right to your door!
For this project, the customer needed to permanently brand their work, custom stainless steel tags were perfect for them because they could wrap these around their products and they will never wear out no matter the environment they are put in.
Due to the nature of the work CNCROi.com does using our laser, there are really a lot of changes we make to the platform between projects, so you’ll see the lego set play a prominent role in many projects because what works for on project doesn’t regarding positional accuracy.
When it comes to laser etching stainless steel tags, the results are permanent, meaning it will not fade, crack or peel over time as there was nothing added or removed in order to create the contrasting brand, it’s the metal itself that was etched without the use of dyes or inks.
CNCROi.com can also etch bars and other materials that require permanent branding.
Custom stainless steel tags in this case are without riveting holes, welding them in place is the perfect way to stick these on because stainless steel welds fantastically to stainless steel, riveting in this case, would actually be a step down.
Although these custom stainless steel tags do get hot to the touch after being etched, it isn’t not enough to melt the lego underneath, so in this case, using essentially a plastic jig works out great and I don’t think there isn’t a day at CNCROi.com where this jig system modified for yet another custom project.
The nice thing about a lego based platform is that I can quickly switch from one project to another rather than making a whole new jig in the shop that might be used for but a few units.
Custom stainless steel tags made by CNCROi.com can be made to any spec you want but what I’ve shown here is etching on the top surface, but if you wanted them cut all the way through, we can do that as well as far deeper etching.
When it comes to deep etching, it takes exponentially longer to produce the deeper you go, but it does solve problems that some customers might have with just a regular etching performed by CNCROi.com.
Any mix of black and white vector imaging and fonts are possible with CNCROi.com‘s custom stainless steel tags, we can also etch both sides if you wanted.
We aren’t limited to just tags, just about anything that’s stainless steel can be etched, as long as it’s flat.
The neat thing about CNC laser fiber etching is that the machine never makes contact with the custom stainless steel tags, you don’t see the laser and what you see happening is the reaction to the high energy beam.
When it comes to repeatability, we are dead-on each and every time, the laser calibrates X and Y with absolute positioning, so unless the tag starts to warp from the heat generated during the etching process or the lego jig is bumped, what you see happening is identical from the second to the millionth.
So why do you want custom stainless steel tags from CNCROi.com your projects? Repeat business… who welded this or who fabricated this… it’s right on the tag that’s either riveted or welded to the component in question.
We’ve done the process you see here thousands of times over the years, this is why we have in stock welding tags that are both stainless steel and anodized aluminium, with or without holes, to make sure we can offer customer a very quick turnaround as generally, people need their stuff yesterday.
The etching onto the stainless steel is not only permanent but its also not affected by bending of the tag or heating or cooling – so if you put a blow torch on it after bending it 45 degrees then throwing it in a cryogenic tub, the etching will still be there!
If you were wondering what fiber laser etching aluminium looks like, now you know.
You have to keep in mind that with custom stainless steel tags, the only “color” you can have is dark brown to jet black depending on the finishing, when it comes to anodized aluminium, it will be grey or off-white.
When it comes to minimum volumes involved by CNCROi.com, with our standard tags, regardless of what you want on it, is about a dozen but if you want something custom, it starts to get affordable at about 50 units and far more so at 100 units thereafter.
Fiber laser etching can also be done on very large plates, what you see on this blog post specifically is our galvo fiber laser etching machine, but we can and have gone dramatically larger using our gantry fiber laser system.
Etching is not affected by the thickness of the steel, but if it’s too thin, that’s when it can start to warp from the heat, as a result, that’s when we move to a thicker plate to prevent this from happening.
When you want custom stainless steel tags, it always helps to have a rough idea of what you want on it, and the files and fonts sorted out ahead of time though we can help you with the design process.
Even the smallest details come out nice and sharp, unlike screen printing, you can’t remove what was done on these CNCROi.com custom stainless steel tags, unlike you use an angle grinder.
The contrast depends on the angle of viewing but unlike annealing, the etching doesn’t also reflect light, as a result, it has a wider viewing angle than annealing.
