Custom Wood Fridge Magnets

The one thing you need to keep in mind is that real wood has grain, which you see very strongly in these photos and the video – the lighting greatly accentuates this visual by the way.
In this case, CNCROi.com was making these custom wood fridge magnets in two different design profiles at the same time, one round and the other rectangular.
Laser engraving on any wood always looks great regardless of scale.
There aren’t any real quantity minimums as well with CNCROi.com, so if you wanted 10 custom wood fridge magnets or a thousand, it isn’t an issue for us though keep in mind that your price per unit does go up the lower your volume.
After laser engraving these custom wood fridge magnets, it’s time to cut them out, CNCROi.com did this job across several boards, as such, this process was repeated several times.

Laser engraving on laser is great because it creates the contrast during production itself, meaning no paint or ink needs to be used but the only limitation is color, you can have any color you want as long as it’s the charcoal color of the wood CNCROi.com used for your custom wood fridge magnets.
There isn’t much smoke in this production of custom wood fridge magnets because we have a powerful air compressor shooting down from the laser nozzle downwards onto the piece and extraction to suck any smoke out of the machine.
There is a little smoke staining on the surface of these custom wood fridge magnets but that’s quickly removed with a little sanding after production.
For this specific job, we used a mixture of Oak and Maple, the Oak is a little darker but harder while the Maple is lighter in color and doesn’t have as strong a grain pattern.
We are able to also carve wood, something to consider for larger projects.
You can compare the Oak above with the maple below, again, the smoke is just sanded off.
When it comes to the resolution, regardless of the hardwood we use, it’s the same for the laser as you can’t achieve a higher engraving resolution than the material itself can support.
For these small custom wood fridge magnets and other things like business cards and keychains, CNCROi.com uses hardwoods because they are a lot stronger than using a softwood.

Another thing you may have noticed is orientation doesn’t matter either when we are making these custom wood fridge magnets, it can be rotated any angle, there is no loss in resolution or quality during production.
Orientations are changed around again, to best use the material we resawed and planned to size for this project.
