24 Hour Production Cycle
My goal here at CNCROi.com from the beginning was to get most projects finished and shipped out of the shop within 24 hours. Generally, that means that within North America, you get the finished project within a few days up to a week later. Although this is true NOW, it will no longer be true in a week or two from now.
Next day shipping is extremely expensive, and best avoided if possible and of course, there are budget, timeline and material constraints but we try to keep material on hand to at least get the ball rolling while our material suppliers ship us more stuff.
Other Holiday Issues
Shipping is only one issue to keep in mind with custom production, the other are suppliers shutting down for up to a week, deliveries becoming inconsistent or nobody being around to accept orders after being shipped.
Basically, about a week before Christmas to two weeks after, things just slow to a crawl across the board, this is why I tell my customers that if they want to get going on a project, NOW is the time to do it!
Material Prices Change AFTER Holidays
Another factor to get moving on a custom project NOW rather than later is that a number of our suppliers, metal through plastics, wood through lamacoids, all plan on increasing their pricing in the new years.
Generally, these increases are 5-10% more which does affect budgets and ultimately, how much we can get done for you on a per unit price. If you are waiting till after the holidays, this is something to keep in mind and is completely out of our control.
Material availability changes
Another common issue with suppliers is they take advantage of the new year to stop selling product A and switch to product B. The stuff that you really wanted simply no longer becomes available in the material selection of your choice.
At the end of the day, a tree is a tree but for some specialty plastics and other raw materials, there are slight changes or wholesale “no longer available” choices, especially in the lamacoid world with new thicknesses and discontinued surfaces, that will happen in a few weeks.
