Way back in 1996, I founded an industrial 3D animation studio and to help fund it, I jumped onto the website development bandwagon. Back then, 3D was a hard sell as people didn’t quite understand our custom offerings but websites were a fantastic way to throw more resources into the 3D department until the market caught-up to our services.

As part of the web development we did, we had to design logos, websites, brochures… you name it, my team designed it. My heart was always in the 3D and not so much in the graphic design, it’s great when a client loves what you do, it drove me nuts when they would make incremental and barely noticeable changes that nobody would have noticed.

You don’t need to buy a machine!

I won’t lie to you, running a custom CNC shop isn’t as easy as I make it seem. You have material defects to contend with (our Austrian CNC industrial laser WILL find them), tight production deadlines and all the regular challenges you have being an entrepreneur building a thriving business. Buying the machine is the easy, though expensive part. The training, maintaining quality and keeping things optimized is in itself, a full time job.

Yes, I know you can buy a hobby CNC laser for 4K from China and produce awesome rubbish but your clients deserve something better, you deserve something you can stand next to proudly and say yes, I designed that!

As mentioned previously, graphic design is fun, we do it all the time here, but not something I do for others. Why would I want to burn a bridge to take your clients away and deal with all the resultant headaches myself? You are a graphic designer, a damn good one at that, you do your job, I do mine. I encourage  you to go through these hundreds of blog posts and try to find places where we showed off client projects, you can’t. There are a few exceptions, one is my cousin who runs a welding business (his business card below), another a local school we do laser work for… but you won’t find any of our customer list or, more importantly and equally, the work that gets subcontracted to us.
