Pittsburgh PA was a great opportunity for me to get to know more about the manufacturing capabilities found both here locally and in the USA. I’m very happy I went and during that time, I came to the realization of how many manufacturing and production contacts I really do have! I’ve really grown quite fond of the Niagara Industrial Association especially when I get the opportunity to meet with members both at their business and in more casual environments.
If you a slab of slate or thick steel that needs the love of a CNC water jet, I know 3 companies right off the bat with this capability, need something powder coated? I know two, one set-up for large production lines and another more specialized. Metal fabrication? Wow… lots of those guys including companies that produce custom alloys! From manufacturing companies with 8 axis machines to millworking outfits with large format Thermwood CNC routers (most with more than on btw)… it really never ends. I had a client talk to me two weeks ago that was looking for a specific task to be done, I refered them to friends of mine who fit the bill perfectly! Did we get any business from it? Nope, but I know two local area businesses that did and that’s just as satisfying as they’ll remember me when they have something needing our expertise.
What I’m writing about is that if you have an application that needs solving, I most likely know somebody who can help you out! I’m not talking about opening the phone book and finding a contact for you, I’m talking about companies I’ve had the pleasure of touring, spent some time with the founder or executives and would feel more than comfortable having them do my stuff if I had a need. I’ve always seen CNCROi.com as being part of productions chains, the client needs to go from A to Z to produce something for their customer and I want to be one of those letters… not only that, if I can find others that I personally know and trust to be part of that supply chain alphabet, great!
So, if you have an application that requires rapid prototyping using a large format 5-axis gantry CNC router and custom G-code programming, I know exactly where to send you… same goes with industrial scale laser cutting and everything in between. It’s rather fascinating the contacts you build-up over the course of putting projects together. Many of these companies I use myself as, although I love my Trotec Speedy 400 flexx, it does have limits whose production abilities I can augment with the help of my friends in related fields who are as equally passionate about finding solutions to other companies problems.
It took countless millennia to create this rock, we just came in around the end of the production line to brand it but that wouldn’t have been possible without all the hard work that put it all together to begin with.
Sometimes going away and stepping back from a business does the mind some good to see the larger picture, I’m so happy to be able to be part of it! Look forward to heading for another in a few months time. I was really hoping to be able to make it to the 2014 Canadian Aerospace Summit in Ottawa next week but it’s too tight between other things I need to be at… will have to wait till next time as aerospace manufacturers need professional and reliable laser marking, etching, abrasion and annealing too!
