Making Custom Corporate Gift Tags
Although the holidays are behind us, custom corporate gift tags are a wonderful thing to have on hand regardless of the event. It’s that extra bit of personalized consideration that makes whatever you are giving as a company that bit more “extra special”.
CNCROi.com is capable of making these custom corporate gift tags out of any material, solid annealed Stainless Steel blocks and paint filled Corian down to paper or cardboard.

Like I wrote, you want, we make, now back to this blog post about custom corporate gift tags! I this case, they were made out of 1/8th inch or 3 mm thick MDF. MDF if you aren’t familiar with it, is essentially a harder cardboard that paints VERY WELL.
I’d certainly prefer to do this work in more expensive and exotic materials but for this demonstration of our CNC laser cutting ideas, I had some scraps in our bit and thought I’d make it out of this stuff which was in odd shapes and sizes.
When I write that CNCROi.com is a custom CNC shop, I mean it! In this case, sometimes our customers give us less than stellar materials to work with, we have a complete sanding through finishing capability in-house, so even the roughest and “not pretty” material can be transformed into a diamond from the rough.
MDF is available in a variety of thicknesses, the custom downdraft table you see in the video above was made using this same material though a little bit thicker. That table that I designed by the way has been amazing, it’s always got something on it!

In this case, the MDF custom corporate gift tags were CNC laser engraved and cut but NOT MASKED on purpose, just to show you, yet another option when it comes to making these. Some materials don’t need any masking, we recently did a big project like this out of lamacoids and it came out great, the customer loved the result and we applied double sided tape to it as well for easy sticking to their wall!
As we have an incredibly precise industrial wide-format Austrian laser, we could have just as easily engraved straight through the board to create the wording which is easily painted but I just wanted to showcase the contrast that’s achieved just from using smoke.
A design feature you may like or may not like is just using the natural vapors that come from vaporizing the base material as a way to add additional detail to an object, with some things, like laminates / lamacoids or woods, this may produce a nice or awful result.

With in-house sanding capabilities, sometimes we choose to mask things instead, it just depends on the material and the design going in and around it as to which approach we take. For instance, here’s an extreme example on a relatively simple MDF custom cake topper.
You can see the masking along with an extra engraving pass to darken the outline really makes a massive difference! Again, how extensive we go down this rabbit hole is completely dependent on your timeline, budget and volume.

If you look at the above picture, you’ll more clearly see the fire that our machine can produce, keep in mind a laser is just a highly focused beam of energy, yes, CNCROi.com gets paid to play with fire! How awesome is that!
There is generally more smoke from the cutting process than CNC laser engraving, especially for MDF custom corporate gift tags, because they are small which means lots goes into each piece in very precise but intricate areas.
Looking at the image below, you can see we CNC laser cut the holes in the custom corporate gift tag before the entire outline, this is to maintain precision. CNCROi.com puts the same amount of thought and engineering into our smaller simpler projects like we do with our huge ones.
The position of the custom corporate gift tags being laser cut is also whatever fit on the scrap boards of MDF, our machine is so fast that quite literally, we can put these pieces randomly all over the bed and it would still produce something faster and more accurately than most CNC lasers out there.
We have an absolute top of the line Trotec Speedy 400 flexx with all the bells and whistles, and that includes two tubes, one that’s fiber and the other CO2. In this case, we are using the CO2 exclusively for producing these custom corporate gift tags.
The holes you see on the left of this MDF board are optimization test cuts I made a while back, again, these are from the scrap bin.
For small projects like these corporate gift tags, this isn’t needed for some of the massive productions runs that CNCROi.com does, shaving off a few seconds off each piece can literally save us days of production time and our customers lots of money in the process.
Design is never on the back burner when it comes to CNCROi.com making your custom corporate gift tags, for instance, if you planned on painting this, this design wouldn’t work very well because you’d be covering-up the engraving of the name.
Alternatively, if this was being made out of anodized aluminium, then these custom corporate gift tags would be perfect as-is.
Taking a closer look, you can see how the smoke around the holes gives these custom corporate gift tags a bit more contrast, maybe on MDF this isn’t the most appealing result but if this was, say, red cedar, it would actually look pretty nice!
