Best Custom Name Badges (how we make them)
I recently made myself two new name badges, I’ve been so busy with CNCROi.com making them for other companies that I neglected my own! Having essentially no budget to make custom name badges out of anything is always an interesting prospect.
In this case, I used our “standard” business card sized orange anodized aluminium. I’ve really grown to love anodized aluminium when it’s fiber marked with our fiber laser… the results look fantastic, the finish is easy to clean and wow, this name badge will easily outlast me by several generations!
This above video gives you an idea of how extensive and precise our laser is and the resolution of imagery and text that’s possible but keep in mind, this is for networking events so the focus is to have as little information as possible where, in hindsight, even my last name is overkill.
Generally I’d use a flat anodized aluminium table that came with our Austrian Industrial Large Format CNC Trotec Laser but in this case, I like to see how much “offness” I can do on my own stuff before results look bad.
We do lots of anodized aluminium at CNCROi.com and sometimes results don’t come out as expected, so instead of trying to do MY STUFF dead-on perfect, I introduce something that may cause problems in order to learn. In this case, the plate isn’t level but it makes no difference, thanks to our high quality machine, fiber lens and solid material.
The results look great, there is still a bit of anodized aluminium coating dust on this name badge but that’s easily wiped off. Watch the video!
I had so much fun making my anodized aluminium name badge with a magnetic clip in the back (not damaging to my cloths) that I decided to make another one out of plywood… scrap plywood has lots of uses from packing to name badges in my shop!
This design is identical to the previous anodized aluminium with one slight difference, the corners will be square and we are using a CO2 laser instead of fiber. Our CNC laser has both in the same machine which comes in VERY HANDY!
Like the anodized aluminium, we can go nuts with imagery and resolution just as easily with wood, the above video is a great case in point as to what’s possible, plywood to high-end solid wood veneer!
After the engraving and lower powered outlining of the text, this plywood name badge was cut out. Watch the video!
There you have it, CNCROi.com can make high quality name badges out of pretty much anything! Got some old skids, we can make it out of pallet wood, gone some scrap metal, that’s no problem for us!

If you were wondering if we can make name badges out of stainless steel, the answer is yes as well, here’s a pic! These are fiber annealed by the way, the black wasn’t “added” but is the steel itself that becomes black when it’s heated by our laser.
Of course, there are infinite material and engraving options when it comes to making custom name badges, even simple laminates look amazing and their advantage is an endless assortment of colors and thicknesses available to us (and by extension, you).
