Now that this custom pine door sign is being cut out of the pine, we can talk a bit about the options when it comes to that front.

In this case, it’s a simple cut out where the text is centered and the cut is a straight 45 degrees at the corners, that could have been absolutely anything you wanted, from custom fretwork to circular, triangular or even a custom shape.

For instance, this custom pine door sign could have been cut out like this holiday ornament then sand blasted for clean-up.

There is always give and take that you need to keep into consideration, if the custom pine door sign being featured in this blog post was cut like the video above and fell, it would break.

Just something to consider, custom means that we use our collective experience to “imagine” the best and worse case scenario for what we do and then from there, figure out what works for the environment it will be found in.

All that’s left to do now is lift the “scrap” (we’ll keep it for future production) and see what the edge quality looks like.

The edge came out great, the nice bonus about wood is that the edge is generally a dark brown, like charcoal, which works great with pine because the face is so light, then the laser engraves a mid-range of the two into the wood.

This makes for a custom pine door sign that looks great in just about any environment regardless of context or background it finds itself in.

We did mask the back, you can see the smoke grid pattern from our table that’s made while it was being cut out of the laminated pine sheet.

It’s easily removed.

The back of the sign looks fine, just a light sanding is required while if we left the back unwrapped, removing all that smoke and sticky resin would be quite a task.

It’s now time to sand off the front, removing the smoke and resin deposits from the custom pine door sign to give it even more contrast and beauty.

There are a lot of ways to accomplish this, but the easiest involves a custom downdraft table hooked-up to our industrial dust collection system and a palm sander to do a quick job of it all.
