Pine & Leather Ahayah Signage
Making the same Ahayah signage using Pine and Leather isn’t something I do too often here at CNCROi.com so this was a great opportunity to contrast both materials using the same design.
Here are the two materials we’ll CNC laser engrave today for the Ahayah signage job, amazing REAL leather and solid Pine board.
We’ll start with the Pine, unlike leather, it can be sanded after production but that doesn’t mean we don’t mask it anyhow just to save time in the shop, an efficient shop is a productive one!
You can now see the Ahayah signage start to emerge from the Pine, the Pine is extra white due to the masking over it, don’t worry, the grain is unharmed and will pop out once this Pine board is done being cleaned-up.
Our Austrian wide-format Trotec Speedy 400 flexx laser is as precise on the first sign, regardless of material as it will be on the millionth with the only variable being the material CNCROi.com sticks under the gantry.
If you want to see what a production run of mostly Pine, the same as this custom Ahayah signage we are making in this blog post, watch this video!
If you wanted matching coasters to your Ahayah signage, the sky’s the limit with CNCROi.com as that’s absolutely NO PROBLEM AT ALL in any quantity you want!
Now that this Ahayah signage is done being precisely CNC laser engraved, it’s time to cut it out of the Pine that this sign will come out of.
A close-up shot of the laser cutting process, there is fire under this board, you just don’t see it due to the grid table that’s under this piece of natural Pine board.
All done! This Ahayah custom Pine signage is now done!
As the focal length of the laser engraving is based on material density regarding how much is burned, it follows the grain pattern wonderfully!
Here’s another recent real Pine job I did here at CNCROi.com for my nephew, notice the grain results are the same as this Ahayah signage.
Next-up is the awesome REAL leather that’s roughly 1/8th” (3 mm) thick, the Pine above was 3/4″ (18 mm) thick.
Unlike Pine Ahayah signage above, leather will contract and move around a bit during the engraving and especially the cutting process, so that’s why we have some annealed CNCROi.com 304 stainless steel weights to keep it down as much as possible during production!
That bright white light you see on the leather? That’s what vaporized leather looks like… remember when you used a magnifying glass when you were a kid to burn ants? Well, this is the same, just an over-engineered approach but it still smells the same.
I’ve done a ton of leather, patches through engraving branding and it always smells the same and cuts pretty closely to the same as well regardless of grade.
I’d say there is more material density in woods than just about any natural product out there, including leather.
The Ahayah signage on leather has a totally different look and feel to it compared to the Pine, both are being permanently engraved and will look great just about anywhere you stick them, indoors or out.
As there was no paint or printing involved, just engraving and cutting, these Ahayah signs won’t wear out over time, or fade.
After a quick sanding, the Ahayah signage looks great in Pine, there is a knot in the top right above the “H” but it’s a natural production that’s what you get!
Now that the leather Ahayah signage is complete, you can see the soot and build-up of material on the surface but like the Pine…
… it cleans-up perfectly! This will only look better with age, like my suit case.
Here’s the video of my business suit case being laser engraved and the two-year follow-up… yep, CNCROi.com does that too!
Not shown was the cutting of an MDF backing for the leather Ahayah sign, the customer wants to have the leather as flat as possible and leather, which is skin, isn’t the easiest material to flatten without a backing.
That was so much fun and the client loved the Ahayah signage but asked me what it would look like if we reversed the engraving on the Pine, well… let’s do it!
If you want to get an idea of the resolution we can put on Pine specifically, check out this video.
And what else can be made? Well, custom Pine key holders too!
Pine really is an amazing material, light weight, easy to work with and sand with wonderful contrast!
Regardless of how we made this Ahayah signage, it would and will come out amazing each and every time.
CNCROi.com is just about done engraving this custom Ahayah signage, the engraving pass is now at the top of the sign which makes clean-up easier.
Is the Ahayah sign “hot” after all this super heavy-duty engraving? Yes, but it cools down very fast.
During the cutting process, more so than the engraving one, you do see sparks and fire.
Cutting out this Ahayah signage is the same regardless of the material, the edge quality is brown which is great, built-in contrast to match anything you put this sign on or with.
Looks amazing! This Ahayah signage is quite a contrast to the other one isn’t it?
There is a masking left on it though, this will be removed and as a result, most of the smoke you see on the surface.
With the protective surface wrapping removed, you can see a little fire got under the masking in the top right of this Ahayah signage, nothing a little sanding can’t fix.
What does CNCROi.com use for sanding? Well, it’s our custom designed and laser cut downdraft sanding table that both provides a platform for sanding just about anything but also holds all our sanding supplies and equipment too!
Custom Ahayah signage through to furniture, CNCROi.com has you covered!
After clean-up you can see how everything looks amazing, the Pine has wonderful contrast, even the reverse-engraved one and the leather looks edible!
