Roland VersaUV LEF-300 UV Printer USB Jig
Let’s make a USB jig for a Roland VersaUV LEF-300 UV Printer that’s to CNCROi.com‘s laser quality specs that we would use for our own laser!
Ever since starting CNCROi.com, I’ve been making jigs, big ones, small ones, great ones, awful ones and through the years, I’ve learned a few valuable lessons, keep it easy, keep it dummy proof and don’t over think what a jig is used for.
One of our clients own a wonderful Roland VersaUV LEF-300 UV printer and tasked us with making a jig for them, of course, they showed us a bunch of jigs previously made that all had the problems that I’ve encountered first hand when making jigs for use internally and although a little skeptical, gave me go-ahead to make a jig just for them.
You see, the most important aspect of a jig, whether it’s for a UV printer or a laser (they share quite a bit in common) is that you need things to be positioned EXACTLY THE SAME between production runs, with a laser, as with UV, any deviation is noticed right away and worse of all, any deviation quickly creates a huge pile of junk!
This was one of my first jigs, little did I realize that my fiber laser source heats the metal so much that some of them melted into the acrylic jig! I’ve made a lot of jigs, and learned first-hand how to make them properly… use my experience to your benefit!
It’s amazing how much bad advice I’ve taken through the years through various grape vines, so I put it onto myself to make my own jigs and learn how to make things right the first time!
Like lasers, a UV printer never actually touches the material its branding, unlike a CNC router which pushes and pulls through material in order to create an effect, as such, you don’t need a massive jig, you don’t need a crazy strong jig, you just need a jig that holds the product properly, with a little give to make things easy, and that produces repeatable results time and again.
I use to be a big fan of making custom jigs out of acrylic, but experience and mostly time taught me otherwise, after about a year or so, they start to get brittle and break – the more you use it, the more this happens so if you have a limited production run, it’s great, if it’s something ongoing, not the best choice of materials.
Consider this, at CNCROi.com, I have the capability to make jigs out of titanium, stainless steel or any metal known to man, the same goes with plastic, wood and aerospace grade foams and you know what I’ve found what works best? Thin MDF – time and again, this has outlasted anything else I’ve made compared to the price.
For this Roland VersaUV LEF-300 USB UV printer jig specifically, I told the client that I’m making it, like all the other jigs I make in the shop, to my standards that I would use myself for my own production!
Whether you have some USB sticks to UV printer or business cards, identification badges or what have you, trust CNCROi.com to make the perfect jig just for you!
What I really enjoy about making custom jigs, regardless of its for an amazing Roland VersaUV LEF-300 or an imported machine with a fraction of the workspace, is the challenge of making things fit perfectly, it’s really quite an art, too much give, you create scrap by the pile, too little, and your fingers are bleeding over the work trying to pop them widgets out of there!
There is quite a bit of fine tuning involved, and that’s the aspect I really enjoy and of course, feedback from customers who own Roland VersaUV LEF-300 and literally everything else saying how this is by far the simplest and best performing jig they’ve ever used!
No two UV printer jigs are the same, there is always a nuance to each one that CNCROi.com manufacturers and it’s a lot of fun once I got things calibrated and working spot-on to my specs.
Through the years, I’ve learned quite a bit about the UV printer industry, enough to realize where people go wrong as I’ve done it too with my own internal jigs and so, regardless of the shape, quantity or specs required, the UV printer jig made by CNCROi.com will work wonders and best of all, will be shipped right to your door!
When it comes to the files themselves, you need reference points and you need to know how to properly use your UV printer, I’m serious about this, if you don’t know what you are doing and cheapened out you will have a garbage UV printer and no amount of jigs will save you.
When it comes to custom UV printer jigs, we make them single or double layered generally, each has advantages in their corner and I use both types at CNCROi.com with my laser on a regular basis.
I’ve seen quite a few Roland VersaUV LEF-300 UV printers in the field and I know they are top quality machines, if I were to buy a UV printer, it would be between three UV printer manufacturers of which Roland is one of them as I hear far more good than bad about them – that’s also why I have a ShopBot CNC router and Trotec Laser – expensive? Yes! Quality? Absolute top of the line!
This Roland VersaUV LEF-300 UV printer jig is finished, it will produce almost 200 USB imprints per production run, it’s relatively strong considering how many holes it has, it isn’t the prettiest BUT it will perform wonders and I can’t wait for the customer to get this to use for their first production run using a custom CNCROi.com UV printer jig!
If you have a UV printer, contact CNCROi.com and we’ll make a jig just for you!
