For this project, we used a laminated Pine, it’s solid Pine through on through, just made-up of smaller pieces to get the required width and length for this 3/4″ or 18 mm board as trees at this size are pretty expensive, this is pretty good and very cost-effective by comparison.
The nice thing about laser engraving a custom stove top cover is that the grain follows through into the engraved area, so you can follow the natural patterns of the wood which are completely removed if we did the same project using our CNC router but with the added advantage of not requiring any paint filling for the contrast, burning wood creates great looking charcoal.
