Tea Light Box Product Design Evolution
Design evolution, regardless of how “simple” the tea light box product I’ve designed for sister site TeaLightBox.com is, there is always room for improvement and refinement based on customer feedback and various production runs.
Although the vast majority of the projects CNCROi.com does for customers are covered under NDAs (non-deisclosure agreements) and thus, I can’t share pictures or video of on this website, I do often get requests for products where there is a lot of volume and thus, multiple prototypes need to be made before actually doing a production run.
Just like the pen and pencil holder video above, some of the products we developed through multiple stages until we end-up with something that can be reproduced consistently over time and as unit counts fluctuate.
That’s where my original idea for TeaLightBox.com came about, as the video explains, I wanted to be able to offer something relatively custom at a price point that was affordable and yet, was consistent enough to mass produce quite easily using the equipment we have at CNCROi.com.
As such, my first design was just that, the first version of what I thought a TeaLightBox.com should be and how it should go together but the real test was customer feedback on said tea light box.
The biggest issue I had with my old tea light box design was that of having to glue it together, customers got them and some just never got around to doing it for whatever reason and after this happened multiple times, I decided that it was time to think of a glueless design for future TeaLightBox.com productions.
Of course, most customers did amazing jobs putting together their own custom tea light box, there is no right or wrong way to paint things, that’s part of your own design evolution as you can always re-paint over a previously painted TeaLightBox.com.
Paint and glue is really quite easy to work with and to learn, you don’t need a university degree to figure things out.
As for paint, just about anything works totally fine, some look like metal, others fabric and yet others glow in the dark… the diversity of paints out there are endless.
As such, I always took the feedback from customers and started to slowly work on a new design evolution for the TeaLightBox.com production line of custom tea light boxes.
This experience of direct product development by myself really helps greatly with customer related projects that some go into retail with, I know the triumphs and pitfalls that come with mass production of a consumer product first hand and can totally related to customers trying to do the same with their products.
Whether it’s a simple line of branded rocks or more complex model kits, CNCROi.com has the experience and equipment to help you with your chosen product line or lines for retail, wholesale or even direct to consumer or corporate sales.
Consider that TeaLightBox.com has only existed since January 2018 and already we are at our second design evolution, there will of course be many more as consumer tastes evolve and feedback on said design tweaks but that’ the power of on-demand manufacturing.
Whether CNCROi.com is making one or a thousand of “something”, if there are any design changes along the way, we can still continue the production run using feedback pretty much anytime, you aren’t stuck having to make all your stuff the same all the time.
I really enjoy bringing new ideas to the forefront both behind the scenes on behalf of our customers and more up-front through our relationship with Trodat Stamps, there is something to learn regardless of what is made for who and the feedback is always kept back of mind for the next custom job along the line.
Although product design evolution does take time, there are other ideas in my head regarding custom mass production we can develop at CNCROi.com for other customers which I will let season until the equipment, expertise and materials come into being.
