The advantage of acrylics over laminates is durability, the engraving is into the surface far deeper than what you’d get with your typical laminate and as a result, they can be paint filled. There are some laminates of course with an acrylic “front” which we can reverse-engrave the back as well, these will last just as long as well which again, could be paint filled.
When comparing custom acrylic name badges to their metal kin, you have a lot more color and opacity options, metal comes in 304 stainless steel or various colors of anodized aluminium but acrylics have hundreds of color options. Custom Laminate Name Badges
Generally, acrylics are a solid color while laminates offer two-color options. For instance, if you wanted a custom red name badge with white text, laminates is the most efficient method as with acrylic, we’d have to paint fill it while with laminates, we just vaporize off the first color layer to reveal the other.

Annealing stainless steel black or going with a black/steel laminate are two completely different processes but where ultimate durability isn’t required, a laminate may be a better choice.

The same holds true with our anodized aluminium options, they are lighter but with a tough exterior coating that’s bonded to the aluminium using chemicals and electricity. If you have a tough time keeping your name badges together, this is your best option by far!
We can also offer these in custom sizes and shapes, but unlike the laminates, minimum quantities will be required depending on the characteristics involved. We can offer the stainless steel in a variety of gauges (thicknesses) to suit just about any application or requirement. Absolutely, there are some designs that work better than others, for instance, if you want the custom name badge to be in the shape of a palm tree, some of the more finer details may be omitted as they won’t be noticeable or too prone to break. We have vast amounts of experience with designs, so we’ll help you sort things out.

Can you make name badges out of ____?
We often make custom name badges out of a variety of materials our clients produce themselves from off-cuts and extras. For instance, if you are a plywood manufacturer, we’ll make the custom name badge out of your off-cuts if you wish!
One option that does come-up is glass, the answer is generally YES followed by a NO. The YES part is easy but when it comes to custom shapes and tight design requirements, quite often, a clear acrylic that “looks like glass” is a better choice. The weight of acrylic is a fraction of glass and if you don’t have the volume to bring the price point down per unit, a better choice. We can engrave glass just as easily as other materials.
