Website: Out with the OLD, In with the NEW!
The website design that made-up CNCROi.com hasn’t changed since inception roughly 2 years ago, since then, there has been tremendous growth in equipment, capabilities and customer base – we even moved to a new shop 6 months ago to have more room for even more custom production space.
Website wise, the blog itself has 325 posts thus far, additionally the site is made-up of individual 79 pages and that doesn’t even include our growing e-commerce section.
Basically, the old site wasn’t flexible enough any longer to take CNCROi.com over the hump and into the next phase of development required to keep everything together seamlessly.
Website Refinements
It will probably take me a week to get everything working properly on the website, the blog is fine and so is the e-commerce section, just lots of little refinements here and there. I’ve been wanting to update the website for quite some time but just couldn’t find a theme that wasn’t JUST e-commerce or JUST static. I needed something that was an in-between as our e-commerce site is as much inspirational as it is functional.
The huge issue I had with the old site that needed attention was the recently developed e-commerce section, if it wasn’t for that, the old site was actually pretty good. I wanted a VISUAL shopping cart system where products that were added were tracked easily regardless of what page you were on. This allows deeper integration within blog articles and a lot of other neat stuff I look forward to adding to the site.
Through the past two years, the content from the static pages hasn’t changed that much, it’s still a mess in my opinion. The last round of updates saw a major refresh to the Custom Ideas section and Applications is next on my list. It’s an impressive challenge that’s similar to walking in a library and having to categorize everything that makes sense and is clearly legible.
Another thing I want to do is professionalize the site further, YouTube is great, but there are far better solutions when it comes to online video capabilities and I’m getting tired of irrelevant and false “copyright notices” which I can do nothing about when it comes to MY OWN STUFF! When you have 829 videos on YouTube and over 3 million views, it takes notice and starts acting-up.
It’s really a mind-blowing time we live in where essentially one guy can run an entire factory from production to IT!
The future is bright!
Truth be told, I really enjoy every aspect of CNCROi.com, writing the blog posts is a nice break from working in the shop making awesome stuff for clients, doing the videos gives me a break from all the IT work that needs to be maintained and allows my creativity to go wild.
My company also has an incredible diversity of projects, from widget production to stickers to name badges to business cards… all custom stuff. We also get to build neat things too and yes, I’d love to share a lot of what we do on this website blog but that won’t be happening anytime soon. You’ll have to be happy with just watching me make things with CNCROi.com plastered across them.
A hint of the direction I see this site taking are adding-in things like this…
Custom Steel Plate MDF Jig
Clay Embossing Stamp: Laser Engraved & Cut 1/4″ Acrylic
Custom Lego Storage Box: Routering 5/8″ MDF
Custom PCB Board Plaques: Laminated Pallet Wood & Lamacoids
Steel Machine Equipment Plates: Plasma Cut, Fiber Etched
Custom Corner Shelving & Cork Board: CNC Routering 5/8″ MDF
How to get something CUSTOM?
It’s really amazing how much work there is yet to be done, technology to be integrated and fun to be had making awesome stuff for our ever-growing client list. For instance, I don’t know how many times we’ve laser etched anodized aluminium but it’s stil always fun and exciting just seeing how far things can be pushed.
