Christmas Ornaments with Holders
It’s been a pretty busy Christmas season for me at CNCROi.com with a huge backlog of videos to upload and blog posts to send-up to the internet through the month of January but here’s how we did an order of custom Christmas ornaments with holders.
When it comes to specifically MDF type work, this year has really been a record regarding sheet count and project diversity using this endlessly flexible material.
If you would have told me a few years ago that I’d be doing so many projects out of MDF, I would have thought you were nuts to even suggest it, I really wasn’t the biggest fan of MDF for various reasons but this material has really grown onto me and I’ve spread that passion for projects that are optimally suited to using this material.
My company has made a lot of custom Christmas tree ornament holders, the project we are looking at today though are a bigger version about twice the size.
This was part of a bigger Christmas ornaments with holders project but I wanted to focus only on this aspect of the laser cutting for this blog post at least, the gingerbread guys are looking good and they will be painted along with the tree by students.
The way this Christmas ornaments with holders came out was great as usual, it’s really a lot of fun running a custom fabrication business where the machinery can be relied upon and everything goes so smooth.
CNCROi.com has made custom gingerbread guys using a variety of materials including solid surface Formica.
All these custom gingerbread guys are missing the internal buttons and smile on purpose because for this Christmas ornaments and holders project, maximum surface area is more important than cutting out finer details into them.
The picture below really shows you how magical our Austrian wide-format industrial laser is, notice has literally nothing is touching the MDF, the beam is invisible and all you see are the results from the laser hitting the wood, nothing along the way producing the energy to do such work.
CNCROi.com makes a variety of projects using all kinds of wood species and origins, it’s always fun seeing the results.
It’s always time to brand my work, the piece of Pine you see with CNCROi.com in it actually comes from a skid I cut-up a while back, it’s been my mascot ever since when it comes to promoting my business across social media.
When it comes to making custom Christmas ornaments with holders, the options that CNCROi.com offers are totally endless, any material, any size, any design for just about any application you’d want us to make something specifically for you.
Other custom Christmas ideas that we’ve made in the shop include these MDF monograms which are always fun to make and share with people.
I’ve cut through A LOT of 1/8″ 3 mm MDF boards over the past few weeks, hence leaving the front part of my CNC laser open for these photos because I was literally feeding the boards through, removing the cut parts, putting the scrap in the fire pit bin and then feeding it more wood.
The Christmas ornaments with holder trees came out great too, I designed them to fit the gingerbread ornaments perfectly and proportionally with a dead-simple stand-up foot system to make sure there isn’t any issues putting the entire project together.
If you wanted custom metal Christmas ornaments, we could have cut that out just as easily as this MDF you see throughout this blog post.
When it comes to the smoke on the front and back of these custom Christmas ornaments with holders, it’s a bonus because this will be painted anyways, hence not bothering to mask either surface as a result as it will be covered anyways.
If you look closely at the image below, you’ll also see some palm trees, they are part of another project to make some custom TeaLightBox.com orders at the same time using the same material which would otherwise be thrown into the fire pit as scrap.
CNCROi.com is also able to actually carve into the MDF too using our CNC laser.
Taking the scrap MDF away, you can more clearly see the foot and trees as well as the tea light box sides from this piece of 1/8″ 3 mm MDF.
Once that board was finished and classified, it’s time to throw the next board into the CNC laser machine and make more to fulfill this order and many more… it’s really been a lot of MDF cutting at this point at CNCROi.com!
We’ve also made custom furniture using MDF cut using our laser.
This time, instead of tropical tea light boxes it’s dragonflies, it has really been nuts all around keeping up and it’s been a great December for making lots of TeaLightBox.com and custom Christmas ornaments and holders.
When it comes to custom Christmas ornaments with holders, CNCROi.com could have cut holes in hindsight in all the bigger stars to transform them into ornaments themselves by laser cutting a small hole in the top of them.
When I first started CNCROi.com, I made a bunch of promotional laser engraved and cut MDF items, those days are far behind me now but it was a fun thing to do.
When it comes to optimal nesting, it’s really great when I have multiple projects going on at the same time as it allows me to optimally use all the material, in this case MDF, so there is very little that ends-up going to the fire pit… running a custom fab shop, there is never any lack of scrap wood.
In the image above, you see a few more custom TeaLightBox.com sides being made yet again, they just happen to fit perfectly where no other shape for this Christmas ornaments with holders job would have gone.
I spent years manually nesting sheets for various custom CNC machines and it really paid dividends for this project, the image below is a prime example of that, the automated nesting program that I use that is generally pretty good only managed to fit 4 big custom Christmas trees on the board, I was able to double that and then add other items at the same time.
Here’s the finished custom MDF Christmas ornaments with holders below, one of MANY MANY.
