Custom Corian T-Slot Hold-Downs

Making custom Corian t-slot hold-downs is just one of the endless products that CNCROi.com can make on-demand in any quantities.

CNCROi.com recently purchased a full-sheet ShopBot PRSAlpha CNC router (the one in the pictures is the ShopBot Desktop) and as part of that, I decided to make custom Corian t-slot hold-downs for both machines to make production more efficient.

There are a lot of ways to hold down material, you’ve seen a wide variety of them through the years of photos and video posts here on CNCROi.com but with new equipment, I decided it was time to make custom Corian t-slot hold-downs.

Corian is a wonderful material, it’s incredibly strong, very hard and machines incredibly well, it’s equivalent to wood in many ways without many of the drawbacks.

Another application for Corian using both CNCROi.com‘s CNC router and laser are custom Corian house number signs!

For these custom Corian t-slot hold-downs, CNCROi.com decided on this material because if the bit from the CNC router hits it, it won’t break the bit unlike metal equivalents which we can also make or degrade due to vibrations as most wooden alternatives end-up becoming.

CNCROi.com has a nice pile of scrap Corian from the projects we did in the past and as a result, these custom Corian t-slot hold-downs were able to be made out of very expensive material as it’s already paid for.

CNCROi.com can of course perform dimensional work onto Corian, so things don’t always need to be flat when we are making products for our customers.

Corian is available in a wide variety of colors, it just happens that the scraps I had that suited this project were black and white, which will help a lot for focusing cameras for photography and filming.

All 12 of these custom Corian t-slot hold-downs are identical, they have the same thickness and tabs on each side that are slightly different to account for material variances we have and will be CNC routering.

Corian can also be easily paint filled by CNCROi.com after machining, it adds just so much variety of Corian as the base Corian is available in a large variety of colors and the painting options are endless.

When ever we work with Corian that involves CNC routers, there are tons of what I call Corian flakes produced, they are the same consistency as snow but unlike snow, they don’t melt but they are totally recyclable.

As a result when ever these custom Corian t-slot hold-downs break or wear out, CNCROi.com can just throw them in the recycle bin so nothing is “lost”, the scraps just had another life between their primary use along the way to the bin.

For filming and photography, I keep the dust extraction system off, so that’s why the Corian flakes that are produced during the manufacturing of the custom Corian t-slot hold-downs are all over the place but unlike wood dust, they go straight down to the floor, another great advantage of Corian over wood.

The nice thing about Corian is the durability and strength, CNCROi.com can also make custom inlays so if you wanted something out of wood, metal or plastic on the top part of your custom Corian coasters, no problem!

CNCROi.com has a big project coming-up that will require our full-sheet CNC router and as such, hold-down will be used extensively as I don’t have (nor need right now) a vacuum table so these are a wonderful USEFUL addition to the shop.

These custom Corian t-slot hold-downs can also be used for non-CNC work as well, such as sanding applications and even holding down machinery that we have in the shop that we used such as small belt sanders and the like.

Of course, custom Corian t-slot hold-downs will have tabs so that needs to be sanded off using our sander, there always seems to be a “sanding” part to the processes at CNCROi.com!
