Custom Fraternity Badges

As with our corporate offerings, custom fraternity badges are available in any size, shape or material incorporating any mix of graphics and font styles you can imagine!

Although the options are endless, what I really enjoy about this style of name badge is that it looks like a name badge, CNCROi.com makes a lot of typical rectangular name tags but when our customers send us something that out of the ordinary, it’s just a bit more fun for the machine to make them.

Although my design for personal use name badge wise predates this one by a few years, it’s just cool to wear a shield shaped name badge, especially when the material is wood, it just has a warmth to it that’s really impossible to replicate using lamacoids, metal or other types of plastics.

In both cases, I want you to focus on the production method, yes, CNCROi.com essentially made them the same way but wow are the design elements different, and that’s what we offer our customers, FLEXIBILITY!

CNCROi.com is a CUSTOM fabrication shop, what that means is we really enjoy making things that are unique or to the customer’s own specs instead of narrow casting them into option A or B which is more efficient but extremely boring to me and not why I got into custom.

I love it when our customers challenge us, different materials, different designs, different fonts, different combinations to suit their own custom branding and that’s where making fraternity badges is so much fun, there is a huge diversity of elements at play each with their own hidden meaning.

If you are wondering how different a totally custom name badge actually is from a typical rectangular one, the above video showcases just how much more presence going totally custom has and the impression that it conveys using the same material.

When it comes to making custom fraternity badges and name tags, it’s fun how playful they are, I was never part of a fraternity when I was in university, I don’t even know if mine had them, but I can really appreciate the lifelong brotherhood and sisterhood groups that form in them well after graduation.

When it comes to volumes, there really isn’t a minimum, if you just want one custom fraternity badge or a thousand, CNCROi.com can produce them for you custom to spec but do keep in mind that the unit prices will drop dramatically as the production costs can be shared across more units.

When it comes to durability, custom badges regardless of material, last a very long time, whether it’s a wooden fraternity badge, lamacoid fraternity badge or even a metal one, we can not only make them all but also make them custom to spec.

The most popular backing for our custom fraternity badges is magnetic, it doesn’t damage cloths as a pin would, doesn’t go around your neck like a lanyard and best of all, is easily stored when not in use or cleaned if you drop it into or onto something.

A common question I do get from customers is can CNCROi.com make custom metal name badges and fraternity badges, the answer is absolutely but you have to remember that metal is heavy.

As such, if you want a stainless steel fraternity badge, I’d strongly suggest going with a lamacoid lookalike over the real thing, but if you are curious as to how those are made, here’s a video showcasing that capability.

And yes, anodized aluminium is a lot lighter than stainless or mild steel when it comes to just about anything we can make with it, but really, wood or lamacoids are tough to beat for this specific application.

As with most of the wood projects I showcase on CNCROi.com‘s blog and video, I pass over the project multiple times to add a bit more contrast and depth, yes, it typically adds production time but I think the result is well worth it, especially for smaller items like custom fraternity badges.

If you are wondering about adding signatures, photos and other design elements to your custom name tags and badges, that’s no problem but you want to keep them black and white for the best contrast.

For low volume anodized alumninium, our business card sized tags are really tough to beat value wise as we get them done in the thousands, just like our custom welding tags so they are very cost effective for a wide variety of applications.

After a double engraving pass, it’s time to cut these custom wooden fraternity badges out from the real wood that bound them together up until this point, this is when the rubber hits the road and the design can be fully evaluated.

As with wood, CNCROi.com can produce equally amazing designs using simple materials like acrylic, introducing a paint fill is great but anything added to the surface will eventually come off or fade over time, which is why I really enjoy making custom wooden fraternity badges because nothing is added, thus nothing can be removed.

The only “ink” used for custom wooden badges is charcoal introduced by the laser, they also smell fantastic compared to just about any other material we work with at the shop.

As for wood, the most cost effective I’ve been able to come up with is actually slicing apart a 2×4, it’s actually a perfect size for a custom fraternity badge and the wood grain is amazing!

I have found these to be a bit fragile though, so they need to be made thicker than a typical wooden badge but it’s a neat idea that stands out.

The reason you don’t see the wood grain on these two custom fraternity badges is because I have a protective masking on the front and back to protect them from the smoke and resins that build-up while burning the details into the surface.

You can really see the smoke and surface stains on the masking paper but if you look very closely, you can also see a little of the wood grain popping out from both under the masking and where the custom fraternity badge has been laser engraved.

Here they are again, looking amazing but just wait till we add a clear veneer and sand the surface after removing the protective masking that’s on both sides of these fraternity badges.

Notice how the wood grain POPS and best of all, the contrast in the laser engraving is increased? That’s the power of finishing REAL wood.

The magentic backings aren’t added yet but you can see the finished result, these custom fraternity badges look amazing and are something to be very proud of wearing anywhere meetings take place.
