Custom Lighthouse Plaque

A custom lighthouse plaque, a symbol of guidance and recognition, makes for a perfect 50th anniversary present made by CNCROi.com!

For this specific project, we used 3/4″ laminated Pine, it engraves great, has a good thickness to it and best of all, lightweight, so you don’t need heavy duty anchors like you’d need if we made this out of stainless steel.

For this specific plaque I made at CNCROi.com, I went over the pictures of the lucky couple twice to create a bit more contrast in that part of the design over everything else as, at the end of the day, they are the focus of the plaque, not the names and dates.

CNCROi.com can cut Pine in a variety of shapes, whether you want something round or square, or irregular like the lighthouse, anything and everything works pretty well.

There is no fast way to make a custom lighthouse plaque, it takes time to get the depth required in order to create the perfect amount of charcoal that will both work together in order to create the contrast that you see in the final design.

If you look at my earlier videos making custom plaques, sometimes I mask them, sometimes I don’t, it really all depends on the design at hand, in this case, there was no need, sanding was a more efficient manner of cleaning up all the smoke stains on the surface of this plaque.

After all the laser engraving was completed, CNCROi.com then cut the plaque out of the 3/4″ Pine, it adds a nice touch to have the plaque in a unique shape along with what’s engraved.

Pine signage looks fantastic, it fits with just about any design you have a room for this to be displayed within.

As this custom lighthouse plaque didn’t have any elements cut through, any combination of fonts and graphics worked great though the image you see on the plaque is pretty old and muddy, so it was a challenge to get the detail / resolution out of it.

If there were elements that needed to be cut out, the font would need to be stenciled and the support material added to keep everything in place.

After laser engraving and cutting out of the custom lighthouse plaque, it’s time to sand the back and the front, you can see the grid pattern on the back and some smoke stains on the other surface around the engravings, as such, sanding fixed it all!

Before finishing the custom lighthouse plaque, CNCROi.com got everything looking great but adding a layer of tung oil will make this pop a lot more, it’s rather white and bland, texture wise, so the finishing will make both the grain and the engraving pop.
