Custom Promotional Printer Jigs

CNCROi.com manufactures all types of jigs, for use internally and for other people, today we’ll make custom promotional printer jigs for a custom who has a UV printer using acrylic of various thicknesses.

For this specific project, we’ve done a ton of jigs for this customer using acrylic and for their workflow and the products they use the custom promotional printer jigs we make for them, it works great.

Acrylic is acrylic, meaning regardless of the color, at the same thickness, the same settings are required to cut it to flame polished perfection at CNCROi.com.

Cutting the inside parts of these custom promotional printer jigs before the outside assures that everything stays accurate start to finish, meaning the acrylic has a far less possibility of moving the longer it stays as a full larger sheet.

The nice thing about pass through capabilities at CNCROi.com with our laser is that we don’t have to cut the sheet down to size, we can literally feed thing into it to cut more, which saves a lot of time and improves overall workflow.

Plywood also makes for a great jig material, as with every other material, it has it’s plus and minus when it comes to various specs it can offer you.

For this project, there wasn’t any spec regarding color of acrylic used to make these custom promotional jigs, so we just used what was in line in our storage area, it happens to be yellow and semi-transparent white.

Acrylic is a wonderful material for jigs because it cuts nice and smooth with minimal kerf, available in endless color combinations and is very durable while being relatively lightweight.

Although I’m showing you multi-layered custom promotional printer jigs, we can also make them out of one solid piece using our CNC router at CNCROi.com, if the application and material requirements work in that direction.

The extra step you see us doing here is bonding glue that’s applied to the jig with holes to the solid base, this is a permanent process that you’d have to work very hard to undo.

Caution must be used when cutting this very flammable petroleum product, it can quickly become a raging fire, as a result, CNCROi.com invested in powerful extraction systems to suck out the air as soon as it’s made so there is never enough to cause instant combustion and compressed air shooting down onto the material as it’s cut to quickly extinguish any flame on-site.

Custom jigs are sometimes tricky, I prefer to stay away from very tight spec jigs using acrylic as it tends to build-up heat and warp the more cuts are made into it.

What I really enjoy about cutting custom promotional printer jigs at CNCROi.com is the diversity of the patterns we make, from small narrow slots to large rectangles, triangles, circles, all at different spec requirements based on the customer’s needs.

You can see the fire shooting down from the cutting process under the acrylic in the image above, if it wasn’t for the compressed air shooting this flame down under the cut line, it would be straight up!

After one of the custom promotional printer jigs is made, the next one is loaded-up in the cutting program and CNCROi.com starts the process all over again.

There is some very slight warping on some of these jigs after being laser cut from the heat generated during said process and the very little material left, filled with holes, as such, there isn’t much material to keep it flat, hence bonding it to a solid base which isn’t warped at all.

Of course, CNCROi.com can also produce metal jigs, although this wasn’t for a UV printer, it shows you the diversity of what we can produce in our shop.

To make sure even pressure is applied on the jig as it dries, the custom promotional printer jigs are weighted down, although the bonding process is almost instant, for a truly strong bond, best to let it sit for a few hours.

After these custom promotional printer jigs are completely cured and bonded, the weights can be removed and the adventure of a profitable custom jig can begin for the customer on their projects.
