Cutlery Drawer Organizer: 1/4″ MDF
I was very much overdue for a cutlery drawer organizer, with a growing family, the amount of cutlery diversity and amount keeps building-up so what worked great for two people no longer works.

When it comes to cutlery drawer organizer, I looked online and off regarding options available and none fit the kitchen drawer I had nor had the divisions I needed, so I decided to just make my own and prototype it using MDF.
I have a full sheet of quarter inch MDF looking for a purpose at CNCROi.com so transforming a part of it into a cutlery drawer organizer prototype was the best use for it, I’ll make a few design changes down the line of this design after I’ve tested out how the new one works.
Hard plastic works great for organizing carts where larger items must be transported around, of course, CNCROi.com can mix and match materials as well, so a soft foam can be inserted to give a better fit if wanted.
Laser cutting MDF isn’t a problem, CNCROi.com has a strong laser, once the design tests out, I’ll make this again using high grade plywood.
Aerospace, defense, even auto mechanics all benefit from being organized in their tool drawers.
When it comes to the design options available for this cutlery drawer organizer, they are infinite, as I never made this kitchen organizer before, trying out prototypes is a smarter way forward because it’s very cost-effective and plenty strong for this application.
The finished cutlery drawer organizer was put in my drawer without any glue, having an interlocking design means designs support one another, so if glue is added, the overall design is exponentially stronger than having something that doesn’t interlock and demands glue to be held together.
Foam is great for tool drawer organizers, but for this cutlery holder, that design didn’t work nor did the material due to the limited space it must fit within.
The tab and socket approach I used for this cutlery drawer organizer prototype worked well but I’d probably make a slot in design for the next round, it just makes assembly easier and overall, the design is even stronger.
The nice thing about low density foam is that it can be shaped to suit any application, it’s soft on tooling but rigid enough to hold them in place over an extended period of time.
Quarter inch MDF is a great material, it isn’t as strong as plywood but it cuts very well and clean, it’s easily sanded and finishes or paints wonderfully.
This design was rather simple, so I didn’t make it using 3D software, just 2D is more than fine for this, but anything more complex, the strength of 3D modeling shines bright and loud, as I use for many projects at CNCROi.com.
Literally any shape or design profile works for custom drawer organizers, although the material is different, they serve the same purpose.
The image below shows you the finished cutlery drawer organizer that holds itself together using no glue.
Cutlery is tough to organize properly, some things are sharp, some is wide, some is narrow and so forth, and after a while, I just gave-up and would throw the cutlery in the drawer as you see below.
Exactly the same amount of cutlery in the picture above and below for the cutlery drawer organizer, this just shows you the power of being organized and why CNCROi.com does the same amount of work for companies far and wide for their tool chests and work boxes.
