Engraved Rock Review: Custom CNC Laser Engraving
Engraved rock by CNCROi.com is a permanent process, we aren’t just applying a layer of something over the surface but actually engraving INTO the rock itself.
I’d say the only other material with as many shifts in density and surface properties that CNCROi.com engraves on a regular basis is wood, while with rock we have different aggregate sizing and densities together to form a stone, we have grain and knots with wood.
The higher the density of the material relative to lower density material around that “spot”, the less engraving occurs, there is no two-way feedback mechanism with our Austrian wide-format CNC laser with 140 watts CO2 laser source.
The best results when it comes to engraved rock occurs when the rock is as flat as possible and is made-up of the same density distribution of the same type of aggregate across the surface we plan on engraving.
Engraved rock stays engraved, it doesn’t peel, fade or crack over time as we are branding INTO the rock.
CNCROi.com has done a lot of engraved rock for a wide variety of applications from wedding presents to birthday and anniversary gifts to commemorate a special events in a more permanent manner than just about any other media we can work for.
When it comes to sandstone, engraved rock is very consistent across the entire surface as the aggregate is very small and the same without any real variance in height or distribution of aggregate.
When it comes to engraved rock, CNCROi.com can also engrave The Rock on a rock!
Just about any type of stone or rock can be engraved, generally CNCROi.com does clean the surface first but the biggest factor when it comes to engraving results is flatness and consistency of the aggregate.
Engraved rock looks great but the process is incredibly bright, it’s literally a blinding white light that our Austrian CNC laser produces when the beam of energy hits the surface of the stone, it’s the same light that’s produced when CNCROi.com engraves into glass as they are the same substance.
Whether the engraved rock is of a higher density aggregate or a lower one, the same blinding white light is produced with the only difference being that more passes are required for additional depth on stones that are denser than lighter ones.
Engraved rock looks great rock but loses its shine and contrast when dry, as a result, CNCROi.com generally applies a layer of varnish to keep that high contrast wet look going over the surface of the rock.
As for what can be laser engraved onto stone, it can literally be anything, as long as the image is black and white, unlike other materials, we REALLY NEED high contrast and grayscale just doesn’t cut it.
There are endless options when it comes to designs possibilities that CNCROi.com can apply to engraved rock.
CNCROi.com can also apply any font at any size onto engraved rock, whether you want a whole bible verse on a piece of field stone or just the name of a loved one or even a company logo, we can do that for you!
As for stone selection, I prefer to go about getting the rocks myself as there are many factors involved with producing a very good engraved rock that aren’t immediately noticeable by somebody who doesn’t have experience laser engraving the surface of them.
Symbols aren’t a problem, as such, any language can be laser engraved onto rock, even hand drawn black and white pictures, literally anything you want can be laser engraved into the surface of the rock.
When it comes to positive results for engraved rock, consistent density, level height and similar aggregate distribution are all things you want to make sure are as even as possible.
