I got the idea for this simple family monogram after making the Nativity Scene out of metal and plywood in the video below, I thought to myself, what’s a “more affordable easier to produce” version of this and thus, we have the video above as contrast!

Like the family of a vegetable seller that always eats what’s left over, the projects I demonstrate at CNCROi.com are made in the same fashion, it’s scrap that I turn into something nice as all the good stuff goes to our customers!
After our Austrian wide-format industrial laser has cut out the design I made from the 6 mm 1/4″ MDF, the next step is doing a quick test fit and then enameling the entire family monogram together.
A test fit is important, if anything doesn’t look proper, I prefer to fix it now rather than after it’s been painted and cleaned-up.
For painting, CNCROi.com uses mostly enamel paint, it coats MDF wonderfully, it’s what my other business TeaLightBox.com uses extensively and it’s quite amazing what can be achieved using the simplest of processes and materials.
In the winter months, my industrial sand blaster doubles as a paint booth for smaller items, it works wonderfully for this and sand with paint doesn’t affect sand blasting capabilities in the slightest… and the paint that goes on the walls of the sand blaster just sands away during normal sanding processes anyhow.
You can now see how the importance of a matte black is for a family monogram, without it, the gold enamel just wouldn’t come anywhere near as much popping, you want a background that makes the foreground look great!
Although this is a relatively simple MDF project, CNCROi.com can go crazy custom for you just as easily from custom modeling to furniture.
Now it’s time for the Cantin family monogram to be painted gold, this is a highly reflective and shiny gold enamel, which makes the matte black which is the total opposite, really help it stand out all the more.
I took my time with the Cantin family monogram as I wanted all the edges to be gold, not just the surface, so when it was placed on the CNCROi.com shop wall, it would give the illusion of floating.

Regardless of the angle, I’m very proud of how this gold enameled with black matte background family monogram cam out, even the simplest projects can really come out amazing!
At various angles, the shine really comes out, the shadows play wonderfully with the matte black background too, giving it a lot more extra “free” depth!
The close-up of the Cantin family monogram look half decent as well, the sharp edges and corners, everything just came out great on this!
