Golden Anniversary Gag Gift

In this case, CNCROi.com produced a wonderful Golden Anniversary gag gift completely by accident due to various circumstances, so we sent both to the customer and they loved it!
The first step in producing an anniversary plaque is no different, the customer selected the wood – the same I would have used for this project – and there is no real indication that we are about to produce a Golden Anniversary gag gift from this material.

The engraving went fine, according to spec, but then you can clearly see that the huge variance in grain density is literally starting to show its head during the laser engraving process of the Golden Anniversary gag gift.
When it comes to pyrography, CNCROi.com can do wonders but it really comes down to the photograph, we need something that’s very high contrast, absolute black and white work best, and it needs to not have too many distracting things in the background.
Probably if this wood was used for another project at CNCROi.com that didn’t have so much dense engraving like a corporate wall plaque, this bit of grain wouldn’t have ever been noticed, it just happens to be at the wrong spot for this specific application.
As the laser engraving for this Golden Anniversary gag gift continues, you can see the grain really is significant and very much taking away from the whole project, I knew right here, that most likely CNCROi.com would have to make another one but I kept trying to try to “fix” this Golden Anniversary gag gift as the rest looked totally fine.
If this wine bottle design looks familiar, here’s the concept I came up with for another customer, using the same idea but way bigger and for a totally different application, this time, for a bar.

Paint filling is another option when it comes to Pine plaques, though there is always a little bleed of the paint as the wood sucks it in, from a distance, this is totally unnoticeable but from up-close, it’s visible.
For this piece of 3/4″ 18 mm thick Pine, right away you can see the grain pattern is dramatically more calm and spread-out, producing a far better looking Golden Anniversary plaque.

After the design is engraved, it’s time to cut it out from the Pine, as mentioned in the video, this couple likes wine, so I decided to design this in the shape of a wine bottle and engrave their very old black and white photo as the wine label.
Cutting this thick a Pine is no problem for our laser, keep in mind this is still masked, so you won’t see the final finish until it’s removed and nicely smooth sanded at CNCROi.com.
CNCROi.com can also cut very ornamental designs for special events, holidays or occasions when you need something memorable produced, like this “we wish you a merry Christmas” totally cut through plaque.
Even with the masking this Golden Anniversary wine bottle plaque is looking very nice and detailed, the details in the design will come-out far better after sanding, that’s when everything will pop along with the grain pattern.
