I’ve made lots of cool fiber laser etching in the past but something I never get tired off are the incredible results our equipment is capable of producing, one of my favorites is this 316 stainless steel Samurai, just love the design the tattoo artist made and allowed me to put onto it and ship to them.
The first thing I want you to notice is that there is NO INK being used in any of this production, we are using a very high-powered fiber laser to etch right into the metal, producing a very precise and permanent etching right into the surface of the custom inspirational steel wall plaques.
The advantage over any type of ink or dye when it comes to fiber etching is that there is nothing to peel, crack or fade over time, etching stainless steel, especially 316 stainless steel, is a permanent process that can only be removed by grinding the plate down to the etching!

Surprisingly enough, the actual process of fiber etching these custom inspirational steel wall plaques is a very quiet one, the machine running the laser is far louder than the process of actually doing the work.
An ongoing issue I’ve had since founding CNCROi.com is that the camera has a lot of trouble with focusing when I do fiber laser work, the brightness is blinding, as you’d expect when instantly vaporizing stainless steel in this case, so that’s why I developed the anodized aluminium cards I put to one side to help the camera try to stay in focus.
Something I really enjoy is mixing and matching materials and processes, each material has its own unique qualities and being able to mix and match the best of each into a finished project is great fun.
As for the smell of fiber etching stainless steel, it smells like burned steel, if there is such a smell, it’s like wood, when CNCROi.com is making custom laser engraved wooden plaques, it smells like a camp fire in the shop, when CNCROi.com is etching steel, it smells like a smelter.
