Laser Cutting Packing Foam
I had some packing foam that was around my Austrian CNC laser as it traveled towards Canada a few months back to find a new home in our CNC laser shop CNCROi.com. I was wondering what kind of results I could achieve cutting through it with our CO2 laser source. So, I gave it a try!
It cut through the foam like it was nothing, the results were fast, sharp and pretty strong. What was especially nice about this laser cut foam is that it produced very little exhaust as most of the foam is simply air that vaporizes on contact.
As you can see from the results, it looks great – applications for laser cut foam range from custom packing of valuables to making larger scale floaters.
The inside letters are easily legible and the dinosaur only lost about a mm all around during the cutting process so very little material was lost during this, it was almost equivalent to cutting through 6 mm plywood.
