Summer Name Badge: Gold Filled Acrylic
It’s the summer and as such, I decided it was time to make myself a fun custom summer name badge that stands-out at networking events and wasn’t as formal as many of these summer networking events tend to be.

As most beer bottles are green in color, I decided my custom summer name badge would use 1/8″ or 3 mm thick semi-transparent green acrylic so like a bottle, you can see through it, the shape is instantly recognizable and the purpose of my summer name badge was to be noticed.

Keep in mind that just for acrylic, I could have used any color and level of transparency, but I chose to use colors that contrasted well and to be honest, anything and everything matches gold, so it’s an easy mix to put green and gold together.

Originally, I thought of using the CNCROi.com logo actually as branding ON the acrylic beer bottle but then I realized it would be too small and I don’t want potential customers having to squint when looking at my custom summer name badge, so I super-sized it and made my name even bigger.
Another idea I was playing with was actually having my name in a different color to the rest of the custom summer name badge but decided against it as it would seem way too busy, there is A LOT going on within this name badge as it is, sometimes complicating things just takes away from the attention you are trying to receive.
It’s quite fascinating how much thought and design ideas are thrown around before a custom project moves forward, especially for a custom CNCROi.com summer name badge that is made-up of only one solid material.

After the engraving is finished on this green acrylic, the custom summer name badge is ready to be cut out, the nice thing about laser cutting acrylic is that you end-up with a really nice flame-polished edge by default which will make this really shine wonderfully when worn outdoors.
As this is relatively thin acrylic and there is a lot of cutting across a thin surface, there is a little warping that’s caused by the heat of the laser going through the acrylic.

The official CNCROi.com custom summer name badge is now fully engraved and cut, it already looks pretty neat but now it’s time to kick the branding up a notch and add some gold fill to make sure that it really pops at networking events I attend.
Here’s another view after the custom summer name badge has been cleaned-up a bit, otherwise the gold will stick to the dust rather than the acrylic and as such, come off quite easily.

I was also curious for my own references to see what a solid-gold custom summer name badge would look like and I must write, it looks pretty darn good but it does lack the detail that I want, this would get people’s attention for sure, but I think having the transparent green adds a lot of detail to the name badge that would be missing just having a name badge made out of solid gold.
