Blue Branding Tags: Grey in Anodized Aluminium

Today we’ll laser engrave grey onto blue branding tags made out of anodized aluminium in a custom shape.

After we had these custom 0.02″ thick blue anodized aluminium tags fabricated to the customer’s specifications, CNCROi.com was ready to fiber etch them, instead of an off-white, into an grey which is a very non-typical color.

While etching anodized aluminium is generally an off-white but a grey is possible by adjusting the frequency but unlike the off-white color, this is VERY FINIKY to get right and only good for very small areas such as these tags.

If the focal point is adjusted even slightly, the result is either no fiber etching or an off-white result, so it’s an in between possibility that isn’t very easy to achieve.

To save time on these custom anodized aluminium blue branding tags, I did two of them at a time using our galvo system, although we could technically achieve this with our gantry system as well, the larger surface area is problematic when it comes to grey etching.

Our galvo is a very fast fiber laser source, like any other CNC machine in our shop, it has it’s optimal use application, it doesn’t suit ALL applications, anymore than our plasma, router, waterjet etc… at CNCROi.com.
