Custom Plywood Tree Ornaments

Custom plywood tree ornaments are made on-demand by CNCROi.com using any design parameters you want and shipped right to your door.

I realize we are the end of January but I’m catching-up on projects I made at CNCROi.com over the Christmas holidays and this production run of custom plywood tree ornaments was one of them.

I did another job using this quarter inch plywood that was a perfect fit for this production run of custom plywood tree ornaments, using material to its fullest potential is something I really enjoy about making things at CNCROi.com.

You’ll see plywood pieces we cut at CNCROi.com drop out here and there, that’s because this plywood warped a bit from the cutting of the pieces I did previous to this custom plywood tree ornaments project.

Laser cutting does affect the material at a larger scale, meaning, it builds-up heat to a lesser amount as steel and sometimes warps because the stresses are released when it’s cut, and heat accentuates.

These are probably the most durable snow flakes ever built, these will last generations thanks to Formica!

CNCROi.com has cut endless and countless amounts of custom plywood tree ornaments through the years, plywood through Corian but not any steel ones yes, probably because they are too heavy to hang on a tree.

You can see the fit in the nesting is very tight on these custom plywood tree ornaments, as there isn’t anything pushing or pulling on the material like we’d have on our CNC router, we don’t need to leave any room for a bit to go through these materials.

When CNCROi.com is cutting through plywood, there is a little minor charring along the edges, for these custom plywood tree ornaments, they are actually masked, so once the masking is removed, the surface is perfectly cleaned-up instantly.

To give you an idea of material flexibility, here’s the same design, cut out of different materials.

The plywood being cut here is quarter inch, but if you wanted 1/8″, then it would cut roughly twice as fast, the amount of power needed to cut through a material is always the same, it’s the speed of the laser head that changes to meet what must be done.

In this production run of custom plywood tree ornaments, not just cool Santa was cut but also gingerbread guys, snowmen, Christmas trees, angels, stars and various other ornament shapes that were in the season.

Laser engraving wasn’t needed for this run of custom plywood tree ornaments but literally any design could have been engraved onto one or both sides of these ornaments.

If you look closely at the CNCROi.com photos above and below, you can actually see the light coming from the flame shooting down as it cuts through the material, the laser itself doesn’t make fire, it’s just the material itself igniting with compressed air shooting down, thus the flame shooting down under the plywood.

These ornaments look white because of the masking, under that, there is wood grain, even though this is plywood, there is a veneer on the front and back, so you still get the “wood look”, but if you wanted it to be solid wood throughout, CNCROi.com can make that too.

Custom ornaments can be made of any size, including mega sized ones.

Once one run of plywood was cut into custom plywood tree ornaments, another batch of plywood was thrown into the machine to be cut-up into even more ornaments for this production run at CNCROi.com!

You have to remember that the laser beam itself, regardless of wattage, is completely transparent, that’s why you never see the laser going across from the right into the head and then down onto the material, you see the results, not the energy itself which is pretty cool.

As this plywood is getting a second life as custom plywood tree ornaments, I’m not too fancy about any additional scrap being created, I just want more ornaments cut properly and fit whatever works in the area provided.

Of course, the client will be painting some of these, hence going with wood to begin with, and plywood spray paints wonderfully.
